Re Covid: I'm not here to discuss semantics but it is based on the same form of virus. Whether more malignant or less is debatable but that's not for me to decide or determine.

The difference between influenza and COVID-19 is in their causative agents. Influenza viruses belong to a virus family known as Orthomyxoviridae.
These express two surface antigens (foreign proteins)—hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N).

COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus named SARS-CoV-2, which is classified in the family Coronaviridae.
The surface of SARS-CoV-2 does not have these antigens. Rather its outer surface is studded with glycoprotein spikes, which give such viruses a crownlike, or coronal, appearance.

You're clearly not happy, but you appear to have many different gripes. What is it that you want to make this forum better for you?

To be fair, it's not on to repeatedly accuse her of starting the Reddit thread without evidence and refusing to back down or apologise. That's on the verge of name calling and bullying.

On this I agree with Olygirl.

Your biases are affecting your mod decisions, LiB. Those posters you agree with are allowed a free ride while those who have been publicly accused of things they did not do are asked to relax.

I wonder if I'm next on your list of banned posters?

I believe LiB edited her post, though I am not 100% sure of this.

I agree, that's really not on.

I hope you give the same warning to others. Can't see it though.

I just don't agree with the alleged division into camps, and while this may appear so in the Covid thread, these lines are breaking when looking at other topics.

The problem is that some of "one side" of this discussion (olygirl is the obvious example here) does not wish the other side be allowed to voice their opinion, deeming it misinformation and manipulative.

Even though "the other side" I believe exclusively is fine with them voicing their opinion even though they see that as misinformation and manipulation.

If one side wants to silence the other side there will never be room for debate.

My list of banned posters? I believe that you have entirely too much time on your hands to ponder about such futile matters.

For me the dividing line is

a) Tony Cliftons on one end who are polite, non-personal and articulate who may post controversial opinions that are based on a defensible interpretation of data - fine

And

b) those who go into personal attacks, rambling diatribes, express obvious conspiracy theories and demonstrable falsehoods and are generally trollish - not fine

The Covid thread should reflect various opinions BUT it should not become a safe haven for anti-vaxxers or conspiracy theorists who willfully ignore the law.

I wrote the above post a few pages back. Please don't accuse me of not allowing a variety of opinions because that's untrue. I understand why some people don't want to be vaccinated even though I don't agree with their reasons. However, spreading misinformation needs to be taken seriously.

Marton,

All coronaviruses is estimated to have existed as recently as 8000 BCE, although some models place the common ancestor as far back as 55 million years or more, implying long term coevolution with bat and avian species.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 1 (SARS-CoV-1 or SARS-CoV)[2] is a strain of coronavirus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)

Never did hurt humanity in some significant way in spite of the outbrak in 2003.

On 31 December 2019, WHO was informed of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan City, China. A novel coronavirus was identified as the cause by Chinese authorities on 7 January 2020 and was temporarily named “2019-nCoV2"

Yes it is a flu with a survival rate of 99%

Re: EF is being discussed on Reddit

Since the Mod team changed, YOU have constantly called for banning people who YOU deem to be spreading "fake news" and misinformation. You have made it abundantly clear that you prefer the Ace1 and 22Yards regime. The only bannings that I recall in the "new regime" have been for inappropriate language.

How is that NOT an improvement? And will YOU apologize in the future to those that you wanted to be banned IF it is shown that they were correct? I sent a PM to Clinimuus with an apology for calling her/him a troll...

There are many scientists, govt spokespeople etc with differing opinions of the truth and the science. For you, or anyone, to think they have the only answers is the height of arrogance, IMO.

Ok I'll let your own words speak for themselves:

This is exactly what the Local editor does not want.

Just because you believe its misinformation does not make it misinformation.

Can the two of you kindly take this discussion to the Corona thread.

This thread is about something entirely different.

I think Schweizerzeitgeboren from reddit (the one who started the thread over there) should come to the next beers on Kennedys bar in ZH next September 29. Tried to contact the guy but his accounts has been suspended.

So, what happened on reddit? Did the guy complaining about misinformation had a meltdown? That is quite telling. The people willing to police others tend to have already a great deals of problems in their heads.

So now there's a thread in EF discussing Reddit discussing EF.

Will there be a thread on Reddit discussing EF discussing Reddit discussing EF?
