I know it is killing me, but i feel sorry for my daughter as it is she who as to walk so early in the morning not me.
Oh, no. See in UK, when you are working mum or single mum working full time, u basically take the kids to breakfast club or childminder. I cant see so much difference in getting up hour sooner or later. As someone said kids are adaptable and is up to you to create a routine at home so that she gets enough sleep.

This is however quiet old thread so maybe the timetables of swiss schools changed since then?

I would be more worried about the breaks and some of the days that you have mentioned that finish at 9.45am???? What is that? Is Switzerland discriminating woman from working?

I plan to come to Zurich with my 2 kids as a single parent and I would like to think I can work full time as benefit system does not appear to me. I'll rather contribute to it that living on it.

According to what I read here, the situation looks much worse in the German speaking part of Switzerland!

In the French speaking part, most of the cantons signed an agreement called 'Harmos' and aiming at harmonising the schedules and the programs for the different levels and between the different cantons.

Schedules are much more regular over here. And in Lausanne - at least here, perhaps elsewhere as well - it's forbidden to send the kids back home if a teacher is sick. School is responsible for its students: if a child is hit by a car or anything during schoold hours, the school will be considered responsible
Same in Ticino, school hours are fixed, same hours every day (except Wednesday afternoons are free).
