SAD is back.....

Looking out of the window this morning I can already feel SAD creeping up my back again.... somehow it feels to me like summer hasn't even started and now its ending already.

Guess we have another 2-3 weeks and from then on every day will look like this until March or April.....

Re: SAD is back.....

But remember it is not all doom and gloom

Here in Switzerland we are blessed with the wonderful mountains and even if you are not a skier or snowboarder, a trip up there surrounded by snow and blue sky certainly lifts the mood

Summer isn't quite over yet I'm sure. Still a few weeks left, minimum.

There are also so many place that have wonderful mountains with great skiing AND blue skies at the same time.... each year I'm telling myself "this is going to be the last winter I spend in Switzerland" but then 12 months later I'm still here

Man up and strap on a snowboard! This is a great country all year round not just the summer!

Re: SAD is back.....

What's wrong with the weather up there? I was in Zurich Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the weather was absolutely stunning - the outside tables were full with folks enjoying the sunshine and everybody looked happy with the world.

This Summer hasn't seemed that bad, at least down here in Vaud. Sure there's been rainy days and some awesome thunderstorms occasionally but we've had a lot of sunny days as well - enough for me to have to water the plants frequently. Today looks like yet another stunner. Can't have no rain or we'd be living in desert! I guess it comes down to what you're used to. My benchmark is the UK. Compared to weather they've been having I'm not complaining but sorry to hear you're feeling sad.

How ironic you posted this today - last night I noticed how much earlier the sun went down and I had to leave my beloved balcony. This morning, I don't know whether it's the early cloud cover, but it was much darker at my usual getting-up time, so I agree. I love summer, but am sure if I had the hot weather 12 months of the year, I'd get fed up of it

The longest day is already over two months ago - downhill all the way until 21 December now folks. I'm hoping we don't we get too many of those Zürich fog bound days this time, they're rather depressing I find.

Re: SAD is back.....

Oh man. We have had a week of some of the best weather that Zürich has seen all summer, and people have already started to grizzle about winter coming. For pitys sake, we havn't even come to the nights being as long as the days yet, let alone long nights. We still have a couple of months of summer/autumn fun to suck out of this year.

So, harden the f*** up, enjoy today instead of dreading tomorrow (or December) and stop dragging me down with all your whining while I am trying to enjoy this beautiful weather.

It's that "Autumn feeling" causing the blues as the nights draw in. I lived in a place once where in Winter it started getting dark at 3.45pm and the sun didn't come up until 8.30am the next day. Now that's depressing!

Re: SAD is back.....

Funnily enough, this morning is the first morning that the sun is low enough in the south for the light to enter my apartment - a surefire sign that winter is on its way for me...

...but I live in a ski resort and love all winter sports so I'm not sad.

Re: SAD is back.....

I'm just glad to have moved to Geneva from the UK for this summer. Since I've been here (beginning of July) I think I've seen rain about 7 or 8 times, whilst my parents have had about that many days of sunshine. I call this a fantastic summer! (Although I'm looking forward to the ski season too )

Re: SAD is back.....

Ticino, try getting some high strength vitamin D down your neck, or get a UV lamp, the type they use to treat eczema. This will help with your SAD.

I lived and worked in SW Mali for 5 years, 50+ deg. in the shade from 11 am until 3 pm, sun belting down mercilessly like a hammer on an anvil. This gave me a deep love and respect for clouds and drizzle. Beautiful country though.

I get quite the opposite feeling, for me the first day when I feel a pinch in the air is exciting. Give me snow over sun any day of the year.

Re: SAD is back.....

its pretty foggy out my window, but i am up on a hill so we will get the sun coming this afternoon,
i personally thought it was so hot on weds (or was that the prosecco making me hot? ) i like a bit of cool and shade sometimes.
my advice is like with the others, go up higher and there will be more sun

Ticino: it's only a temporary blip - see the forecast for the weekend and beyond:

I think the summer has been pretty good this year - I seem to have been chasing my little boy around with handfuls of suncream for most of it.

I am in Altstetten, Zürich at the moment. Sure it is a bit grey this morning, that will clear later. But there is that slight refreshing chill in the air, it is bright and it is not raining. Purrfekt...

Have to say I noticed a sudden increase in the number of ladies wearing scarves during my commute this morning. I felt positively naked wearing short sleeves...

The cloud cover made it a wee bit chilly but not cold!
