It got resolved in that I finally just got so sick and tired of Cablecom's debt collectors emailing me and sending me nasty letters that I finally just decided to pay the bill!

[...]

How does a company continue to operate in this day and age when they are so incompetent?? Shocking...
Well, not to be a jerk, but I think you answered your own question. Companies/people react when there is a direct benefit/penalty to them. If people pay bills they don't owe, it's - in the short term - not exactly a penalty to cablecom.

Realistically, you don't have much effect on cabelcom's bottom line; my guess would be that there's a compensation system in place that rewards high sales and fails to take into account this kind of crap. If you factor in the high immigrant turnover here and maybe point of sale monopolies, there's also probably a relatively small danger of serious reputational risk from these incidents, so they have little reason to change.

That doesn't make it right, of course; I'm just throwing out thoughts, not trying to justify their actions... sorry to hear about you getting snagged, in any case!

Re: Cablecom- Dirty Fraud on Customers

Sounds as if the aggrieved people should get together and sue them!

In the UK there is usually a get out clause of 7 days cooling off period, maybe something like that should be introduced here. I guess someone could start a petition to collect signatures to get it into the political agenda.

Depends how many people feel it is needed I guess.

This form of 'sales technique' became fairly widespread in the UK when the utility companies were privatised. People were finding that they had apparently changed companies without their knowledge. Due to many complaints, the industry has been forced to clean up its act. The practice seems to be quite rare now.

Don't accept this form of deceipt. It can be stopped.

Re: Cablecom- Dirty Fraud on Customers

This thing must be stopped in good-time. I have sent a link to the
Customer Service Dept of CC for their action, where necessary, as
I think that may be helpful all around?

Re: Cablecom- Dirty Fraud on Customers

I walked into the Zollstrasse Cablecom Servicepoint and got a written complaint confirmation after waiting for 30 minutes.

I've been told to contact them again if I receive any further communication from Cablecom about this matter, otherwise this is cancelled. The person who handled my case was apologetic, and called the whole thing a "bullshit scam" (his words) pulled off by outsourced agents.

I'm in any case also sending a registered letter to cablecom about this to make sure my cancellation is received within the 7 day window.

Sounds like you have got a good result. With these scams it is often not the companies themselves who are responsible, but self-employed agents. If they are working on a commission only basis, the temptation to use every trick in the book is often very high. The companies that they represent do not want the bad publicity any usually stamp out these rogue sales agents quite quickly, once there are complaints.

The problem is that they let it happen in the first place. I think it is sometimes a case of 'all the time you get away with it, we won't stop it'.

Re: Cablecom- Dirty Fraud on Customers

Another interesting cablecom collection story. My boyfriend has gotten 2 bills in the mail for an old cablecom account.
The odd thing is, he has never had an account with cablecome. His last house had a Swisscom account and but his x is still in the old house with the old SwissCom account.

He went back to the 'contact number' asking for copies of the unpaid bills but nothing has come of it.....

It was clearly a scam so I guess the message is becareful and check all your bills.

Why not try the Telecom. OMBUDSMAN. The Cablecom website itself
provides for this.

Re: Cablecom- Dirty Fraud on Customers

I use Cablecom for my Internet access but otherwise don't have anything to do with them.

There was a time they were trying to make me switch my phone to them and making me unbelievably cheap offers. The same happened in Dr Fust shops and such places, where they post their agents. I never fell into the trap though as whenever I asked for technical details etc they didn't have a clue and said we'll have to talk to our technicians etc and get back to you. They never did. This is when I stopped taking Cablecom seriously.

The telecom ombudsman only intervenes in "telecom" matters, which it was in my case since Digital Phone was involved, but they won't intervene for cable or internet issues. Further they don't have any powers, they merely mediate, and they are to be resorted to only when you have faied to come to an agreement with the telco, i.e. they are not supposed to be the first port of call.

This already exists in the Swiss Law of Contracts (Obligationenrecht) - a termination period of 7 days.

Re: Cablecom- Dirty Fraud on Customers

I go an Cablecom Internet offer ad in my mailbox and followed up trying to get Cablecom Internet - in Geneva.
Waited a month for a devis. Finally a technician came and informed that the old cables need to be changed in a whole building. He said it can be done within a couple of weeks.
A month later I got letter from Cablecom regreting they can't instal me the Internet because the cahnge of cable in my building is not planned yet !
I find it ridicoulous and absolutely un-commercial

Re: Cablecom- Dirty Fraud on Customers

I've had exactly the same situation as you Rachelle, but I am Swiss. Cablecom is criminally incompetent! And not just that.. they just try to get your money any way possible, whether or not you have to pay doesn't matter much...
THEREFORE AVOID CABLECOM AT ALL COSTS.

Use any Internet provider but Cablecom, cable TV you can get much better from Swisscom with excellent service and bills overview at the same price! I'm a burned child from the same fraudulant Cablecom system, I spent hours and hours on the phone, sent several letters (don't know the correct term, where the recipient has to sign when picking it up at the post office etc) After almost a year they finally cancelled all my open bills and acknowledged it was their mistake... Do at no point pay! Calling is useless as the next time you call they will have forgotten everythign already and say something completely different just to get rid of you! Write letters and keep them as proof!

@ AnnaGVA: Call Swisscom and have your home number ready. They can check within minutes if ADSL is possible at your flat and at what speed. Within less than a week (2 days in my case!) you have your Internet up and running.
