Religious discrimination by SWISS.

OK, so I am on my way to Canada/Cuba and the flight is delayed by 4 hours due to 0.05 centimeters of snow and forcing me to rip up my train ticket to T.O and buy and airticket.

I arrive at the gate to find that 90% of my flight are pilgrims from mecca of whom 90% are sick with some flue (NOT an exaggeration, I overheard a conversation from the "leader" of the group that everybody was sick)

When the "food" arrives, the muslims get a nice meal of lamb, couscous etc, while the infidels receive just about the worst airline meal I have ever had the misfortune to taste (and I flew Airflot in the 80's), a soggy mass of plastic "macaroni" with ketchup.

Will I complain to Swiss? You betcha... and I will hint at a lawsuit too.

Re: Religious discrimination by SWISS.

Have you asked for the other menu during the flight?

Please report back with the answer from Swiss, should be entertaining.

You want to complain to Swiss because you didn't have the forethought to order a special meal...?

Re: Religious discrimination by SWISS.

Glad I found this thread, I'll go get a bag of popcorn.

Seriously, what's the problem? I can understand you being fed up with a delayed flight but that's a feature of modern life. Not being a muslim and not being offered a halal meal is your problem, maybe you should have mentioned to the air hostess crew that you'd like a halal meal?

Actually you were served a Swiss (not the airlines) specialty called G'hackets mit Hörnli.

I don't know what are you complaining at and what was the reason for your mentioning the fact that 90% of the people were muslims coming from mecca and 90% of them were sick. It's no where related to the type of food you get in that flight.

As a matter of fact people on pilgrimage they travel in groups and they have all the things sorted out before travel by their travel agents (like tickets, food, hotels etc). So it was obvious that they had asked for a special meal (since they eat only halal meat) while booking the tickets.

So you did not get it because it was a special meal requested before hand by the group and the airline probably complied as it was for 90% of the people in the flight. I think you would not have complained if you had got what you wanted and others not. Moreover airline cannot know what type of food you unless you mention specifically. Good food is always a personal thing. Maybe there was somebody who liked "a soggy mass of plastic "macaroni" with ketchup".

Good luck, but please don't bring down the airline as I still need them to get to London to visit my folks.

When I read posts like that I always feel sympathy for the airline staff that have to deal with passengers like that. What is it with travel that makes people leave their brains at home?

Re: Religious discrimination by SWISS.

a quick glance at the website reveals there is a choice of about 15 different food options all available to choose in advance...

as for the plane being delayed, cant imagine this has ever happened to anyone else before so im sure you'll get a full refund....

I think Mr. Canadian Dude left his brains on an Aeroflot aeroplane back in the 80es.

Re: Religious discrimination by SWISS.

I think Nico the Canadian dude is just having a rant, isn't that what EF is for? ****ty delays, worries about catching some flu from the other masses of sick passengers, ****ty food - whether 'twas so or not - and to top it all, it was Christmas and all he wanted was to go home... Hey, I hear you.. although not sure about the lawsuit thing. At least next time you might ask what the Halal menu is and if you can order the lobster bisque...

"experiences are not negative if you learned something from them...." that's my motto.....

Happy New Year to everyone and for those still to fly, think about the food... it can totally ruin a day.... By the way, it reminds me, I tried the TexMex in Zürich, I think it was Pappajoe's. anyway, yuck. I saw someone else have chicken wings and yummy looking chips, so I may suffer the place again in the hope of ok food, but I have to say, the Fajitas were, unfortunately flavourless and a soggy mess, as were the onion rings my friend ordered.... right, I can see I am probably hitting on another thread here, I shall stop while the going is good....

Re: Religious discrimination by SWISS.

That's a point - if they've got 'flu (actual 'flu, not what everyone here calls flu, i.e. a cold), then surely people shouldn't be able to fly? Something about comunicable diseases. After all, influenza is not a trivial runny nose and you're cooping up a lot of people who are ill with those who aren't in an aluminium tube with recylced air.

Actually, even with a cold you shouldn't fly. It affects the pressure equalization in the ears and can cause excruciating pain. I did it once many years ago and will never ever forget it. I was flying from London to Lisbon and held my head in my hands for the whole approach. I swore that I would never fly again with a cold and until now have been able to keep to it.

So are you saying that everyone should show up at the check-in desk with a fit-to-fly certificate confirming the bearer has been tested negative for all known airborne "comunicable diseases"?

Interesting.
