Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

p.s... I used to live in an apartment block in Geneva and we also had the no showering / no flushing rule after 10.pm

however on my last night there I actually did take a shower at 10.30pm, yes you can call me a rebel.

Show me any study that inhaling farts from 2 floors away causes lung problems or stinks out my flat.

Now, if you're inviting me to come curl a post-curry log out in your bog...

Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

Funny place this. I travel a lot for the company I work for. They have business operations in mainly Central Eastern Europe and Russia. Therefore when I return home, it's usually takes 5 hours plus to do so.

Not being able to shower after a day at work and an evening travelling would be a killer. I asked my landlord to strike it out of my lease which they would not.

The lady next door complained & I apologised profusely explaining my predicament. I also mentioned that I don't complain about her kids making more noise than a herd of stampeding cows with bells outside my bedroom window from 06h00 on weekends & I would gladly stop my (honestly) 5 min shower in the evenings if she could contain her little treasures till a more respectable 08h00 on weekends.

Seems we have agreed that I can take a shower late at night. Funny thing is, when I hear them use the shower, I almost have to use a stethoscope to hear it & I do have good ears....

Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

The swiss should just build better apartments with soundproofing. I've seen the so-called "luxury" apartments in Switzerland and in Canada they would probably be fit for a cleaning lady or a student. However they cost mega $$$$$$.

Luckily my building has many immigrants who don't care and besides, when I got a bit of a stubble, I look like an angry Albanian or Chechen, nobody bothers me when I take a shower at 2 AM.

You should see my neighbour. I thought she was an angry Chechen or Albanian till I realised she was da mama...

Have you got any property tips for Canada - I sure would like to put some money down but not in Switzerland?

Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

Man, Montreal is pretty hot right now for properties. I was about to start saving money for a downpayment on a house here in Switzerland... Then saif F it. Too expensive, rubbish quality (visual, not construction.), flat market. If I am going to buy a condo, it will either be a 5-plex in Montreal to rent or an appartments for me.

I found this condo... Downtown Montreal, 18th floor, marble everyting, large walk-in closet, fully equiped kitchen, hardwood floors, 24/7 concierge, underground parking, outdoor/indoor swimming pool, 2 bedrooms, 150sq/meters. 500 thousand CDN taxes in. When I checked it out, that made it about 550 thousand CHF. Would probably cost 4-5 mil here in Switzerland to get the same quality/location.

Montreal is becoming the next Miami, with all the condo building, but without the speculators, since people actually live in these apartments.

Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

I got so frustrated by the rules and the individuals policing them in the swiss german part, I actually decided to move to the swiss french part and commute. People are much more relaxed here and have a comme-si, comme-ca attitude which makes life alot easier.

Sounds like the best option to me, too.

Am somewhat alarmed to hear this, since I will soon be moving into my first Swiss apartment. I hope it's an unusual story.
Im afraid its not unusual story my neighbours are always complaining about the kids playing outside at lunch time are they supposed to sit inside for 2 hours so the swiss can eat there lunch in peace i mean were we live is clearly for children as we have a big playground. No noise on sundays this is weird for mein England you can wash hoover basicaly do what you want but not here, the landlady goes mad if we make to much noise.

Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

Has anyone thought about talking to their neighbours ? I moved into a place with laundry rules etc... its a small building so I knocked on the doors said hello introduced myself.
Everyone else is Swiss, I asked a couple questions found out only 2 of us use the shared Laundry so ignore the scheldule. I also found how they deal with all kinds of things like taking out eachothers recycling and sharing the yard etc......... its amazing what a little human interaction can bring.

Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

re kids playing outside, Amanda: yes, they actually are expected to do so in some places that adhere to the noon-2 p.m. rest rule.

Some buildings are more laidback about this than others. There is a big playground and lawn in the development next door to where we live (Zurich, Kreis 6), and while the kids don't disappear entirely during the lunch hour, it's usually a little more subdued than in the afternoon. Same goes for Sunday morning: the kids usually don't come out in droves until about 10ish.

If your neighbors are complaining about lunchtime noise, that probably means you live in a building that sticks to the noon to 2 p.m. quiet rule.

Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

I'm confused by this rule...What happens if one during the night has to go to the toilet? He/She can't pull the water, and must wait for the morning to clean the toilet? This is ridiculous...not to say dangerous for higiene.

Re: after 22h one cannot take a shower in zurich?

In both my places in Lausanne it has been ok. In fact my current neighbours flush and shower at all hours and I used to regularly wake up to a neighbour in my old place cooking at 4 am during ramadan. Live and let live I say!
