UK postal prices

I've just picked myself up off the floor, having been told that the 8.3kg box of clothes I bought off ebay.uk and had posted to my brother there, will now cost 99 POUNDS(!!!!!!), at least, to post to Algeria!!!!
Can anyone throw some light onto what might be the reasoning behind this.

Re: UK postal prices

I used to send boxes back to the UK for christmas and birthdays from Switzerland also cost me a fortune, it as to do with the size of the box they told me.

I now drive over the border to Austria and post the boxes alot cheaper

Re: UK postal prices

If it's a box (i.e. box shape) they will have calculated volumetric weight. If you can have the package vacuum packed as small as possible and wrapped it will probably cost you less.

Re: UK postal prices

I had been wondering if it would help to make smaller packs, but the vaccuum pack idea is a great one!

Re: UK postal prices

Post from UK has a 2kg weight limit for most items/countries. I am guessing that you have been given a price for five smaller parcels.

It would be worth trying some of the freight carriers, though I doubt if there will be much saving.
