Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

I'm so I bought in my country a Dell laptop with a complete care warraty for three years.
Last week I found my laptop screen broke but it was ok for me beacause I knew my warranty cover all the damaged, so I call dell support here in switzerland to let them know about my laptop and they ask me for my code etc and they told me that I have a complete care warranty only valid in America( US & Latin America), not in europe!!! here to fix it it will cost me 300 euros when in america it will be for free
I think is not fair because the purpose to buy these laptop with complete care was because I knew I will be comming to live here in switzerland.

DELL SUCKS!!

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

That does suck, sorry to hear that.

How long would it take to get fixed in the US? Maybe someone could do it for you on one of our trips back.

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

I didn't ask how long will take to fix it in America. this Dell support is terrible here, they don't know nothing.
The laptop just need a new screen. think it can take 1 week or less if they are not so lazy.
I bought my laptop in Central America ( Honduras), so don't know in US how it works.
Do you think it will be cheaper to pay to some of this companies like DHL to send it and forward or to pay the 300 euros and fix it here.

I think Dell really is not fair with this warraties it should be valid here as well, they just like to make money.

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

When you bought it, did you ask/check specifically if the warranty was valid in Europe?

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

the sales man told me will be valid everywhere but I assume he was just making a sale like most of this people, they don't care about the costumer just to make one more sale

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

Hello

My wife and I had the same problem with her HP laptop. The extended warranty was only good in the US. So, my wife shipped the computer back to me, I was still in the States, and I shipped it free to HP for repair. After receiving the repaired computer, I sent it back to my wife here in CH. The post was about $65.00 each way.

The only problem is HP would only ship it out to a US address. Maybe you should contact Dell to see if they would work with you on the shipping back to Switzerland.

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

Indeed, Dell can be very problematic.I had the same problem when I moved to Switzerland from the United States in 2005. I cannot remember how, except through sheer persistence, however I did find out that they were able to make something like an international warranty transfer from the US to Europe/Switzerland -- which they did -- at no cost, I believe. I had to make several phone calls to find out that such a procedure actually exists, and I truly believe that some Dell employees don't know all of the policies, like that one, for instance. At any rate, good luck. Be persistent. And you will get better luck talking to somebody in the United States, even coach them a little and tell them what you want and that it can be done because you know it has been done. Sorry, sometimes you have to get a little hard line when dealing with Dell.

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

We just shipped it registered mail/post between CH and Los Angeles. When the package arrived at my home in Los Angeles, I used the prepaid UPS box HP sent to me to send it to their service center. If I were you I would call the center in your country and see if there is something that they can do for you. They might help you with the cost to ship it back from your home country to Switzerland. Nowadays, people just don't communicate enough, therefore, a lot of problems are never solved. It's worth a try. And, if they do agree to help you with the cost of shipping, make sure you have it sent to you in an email for future references.

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

With DELL it does depend on whom you talk with and where they are located. Try to get someone in the US who can take care of transferring the warranty.

I had an issue with DELL with my first order with them, and it was a very frustrating experience. I gave up and faxed a nasty letter to their CDN office. A guy from this office called the next day and dealth with the matter on the spot; we understood each other as Canadians. Furthermore, the people in the US and Canadian offices wield more power to deal with situations. Call centre people in Latin America don't and are afraid to do anything out of fear of losing their job.

Give it a shot before trying to ship.

We've also had trouble with Dell customer service on a couple occasions. Enough to make us decide to take our business elsewhere.

Good luck to you with this!

I forgot to mention, you can most likely call the US 1-800 number with Skype for free. Be persistent but patient.

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

I used to work for IBM, and I also had a customer in that situation. In his case, it was in normal warranty, and we would have repaired it, but his model was not available in Europe, so we could not get parts for ham, and he had to send him back to Taiwan or Japan, or whereever he had bought it.

As for Service contracts, I think they only covered for the country they were purchased in, and they had to be registered to be valid. I would guess, Dell has similar conditions.

Re. Dell's customer service, I am not surprised. I applied for a job there many years ago, and the Interview was for another job, than I had applied for, and I could feel, the Atmosphere was not good, so I decided to keep looking for new jobs.

My Ex Girlfriend bought a Dell Laptop - despite my warnings - and when there was a Battery recall, they sent her a new motherboard instead of a Battery.

Doc.

Have you checked the conditions before buying? It's fairly common practice that US warranty is not working in Europe. But usually you can pay more for international option.

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

Unfortunately the Complete Care warranty is not valid outside the US as it states in the Complete Care Terms & Conditions located here
http://www.dell.com/downloads/global...teCare_dhs.pdf
You can transfer your warranty, but I don't think you can transfer your Complete Care portion of the warranty.

If you had purchased the system in Europe with Complete Care, you would only be able to get it repaired (under Complete Care) in Europe as stated in their T&Cs
http://www.completecare.eu.com/index...etecare.policy

This is only for Complete Care claims, standard warranty service for notebooks is available in all countries that Dell have service centers.

For desktops, the standard warranty only covers systems in the country that they were purchased unless the tag transfer process is completed here

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

Hey everyone,

I'm having some strange DELL problems too.
Does anyone know if there is an authorized repair shop near Zurich?

Talking on the phone won't help, it's a hardware problem.
Also, my warranty is expired

Thanks!

If the warranty has expired, then go to any repair shop. It doesn't have/no longer has to be Dell "authorised".

Re: Dell Warranty Not Valid In Europe

For the warranty issue you might want to explain your problem by either of these means. Best (as always) to ask for help/a solution rather than moaning. I know it can sometimes be difficult :-)

@dellcares on Twitter

or at

"Dell then click on the Support tab" on Facebook.

They are social network "outreaches" for Dell USA.

Good luck.
