I have a smart phone with the internet disconnected. On a recent overseas trip my phone somehow started to want to contact Sunrise in Switzerland for what I can only presume was an update.

Even today I'm not sure that the update wasn't being sent by Sunrise in the first place to update something. The crux of the matter is that, my phone or Sunrise decided to do this every 30 minutes for a whole week. Each time no connection was every made but somehow Sunrise say that 2kb of information was transferred each time resulting in a bill of CHF 180 for some internet that I never used.

Sunrise just fail to understand that there was no benefit to me in all this and that it naturally was not their fault despite my phone never wanting to do this before or any of the settings being changed. Its no so much that I want Sunrise to delete these charges (i have been a loyal customer for 4 years with two phones often spending over 300 CHF a month), it has been their attitude in addressing the problem.

Luckily my contract with sunrise finishes tomorrow and the account is being closed down but i am dismayed at the lack of foresight that an organisation like Sunrise can have. Well they have lost one account already and another in two months time.

Just another example of large company arrogance...

That's really awful. Have your phone checked though because maybe you could have a virus ? I have no idea how it could be possible with a phone but about 2 years back there was some noise about the possibilty.

Any update service settings on your phone are phone settings, not provider settings. Sunrise have nothing to do with it. I have my phone set to ask before doing any type of connection when I'm roaming, I believe nearly all phones have this option somewhere in the settings.

The internet was turned off.. if it was working correctly and the update was connecting then it wouldn't have keep on requesting something....

To me it looks it was trying to connect but something in Sunrise was stopping it which then begs the question that the service and my phone wasn't working correctly?

Perhaps its the lack of interest in dealing with the problem that concerns me the most and the lack of willingness to come to a compromise.

I quit sunrise after being a customer for years. I'd always taken umbrage with their"customer service" style and their kamikaze bill collecting, but when they basically called me a liar after I was falsely billed, the relationship died..... Kinda like when you tell a girl to **** off. BARSTEWARDS.

A colleague of me here has Sunrise at home, and often is embarrassed about them, for instance when the internet connection for more than 10 hours is out, about their customer-service and about their billing procedure.
