750 Chf deposit to connect to internet with Sunrise.

I really want to get this off my chest.
Because I have been given an L-permit, to do with the conditions of my work-contract, I had to pay 750Chf deposit to get a stick modem with Sunrise. While I understand that this is to protect themselves, I think it's steep, most annoying it's left me over-drawn in my account as I have to pay half my apartment deposit and rent next week. :-(
I will always find money to Swing-dance though!

Suppose that's life eh!?!

It sounds extreme indeed, but they possibly made their experiences. At the other hand, would it not have been possible to purchase that stick modem ? I just looked through their WEBsite and cannot find anything for more than CHF 300.-- .

Re: 750 Chf deposit to connect to internet with Sunrise.

I did purchase it, the max one for 49Fr a month, otherwise I wouldn't be sitting here replying. There was a once off fee of 39Chf I think for the modem itself then the 750chf deposit. My mobile is under a different network.
I know they have probably been caught out before, but it's just makes this month another difficult one financially, that's why I want to get this off my chest.

I did not mean the "per month" thing but a full purchase, making it fully owned by you. I know, it may either not be possible or difficult as they make more money by leasing such stuff out. However, the other side of the coin is that you in case it becomes technically outdated can exchange it for a newer one and even can hand it back.

Whatever, this deposit is "Wucher" !

Re: 750 Chf deposit to connect to internet with Sunrise.

750.- is steep.

When I moved here, the Swisscom demanded CHF 500.- deposit for a
phone connection. After 5 years in CH I got that back plus interest.

It is a lot of money, but you do get it back (as long as you pay your bills)

Re: 750 Chf deposit to connect to internet with Sunrise.

I once had to pay down a deposit after not paying my phone bills on time once too often... Just make sure they don't have another customer with the same name that may have put you in the same basket...

Or maybe it's because of the permit, although that would suck...

Alternatively ask them how long they need you to be a good paying customer to get your money back...

Re: 750 Chf deposit to connect to internet with Sunrise.

We had the same experience. It's CHF 750 deposit even when you buy the modem outright and up front. They are covering their risk that you go crazy with internet usage and then don't pay them the charges you owe. You can't trust auslanders after all!

We were hoping that the L permit (when it finally came) would allow us to get contract internet and stop paying CHF3/hr (rounded up) to Sunrise for prepay internet. No such luck.

Luckily, around the corner from Sunrise (in Rapperswil) the Swisscom shop had a new offer which was CHF4/day, again for prepay internet. We had heard Swisscom were the most expensive so we almost didn't check their shop, but they turned out to have the best deal. Also, their modem is newer & better and the connection rate is much faster than the Sunrise modem. In fact, it's pretty much as good as basic broadband.

This is just as well since we are still waiting for Cablecom to connect us at our new flat... but that's another story.

yeah, well... with the amount of notes on this forum even from people "wondering if they really need to pay this fine/last months rent/parking ticket/speeding ticket/ you name it" i am not surprised that the locals are sceptical of foreigners paying their way....

It is steep, but as Mr S said - you do get deposits back - I think we even had a whole 2.5% interest paid on it for those years that they had the money. (You certainly don't get that where i come from..)
