Now I understand why they have such a huge suicide rate
Switzerland does have a high suicide rate but a number of european countries including France have a higher suicide rate so the common belief that the swiss suicide rate is exceptional is not really factual.

I'm not that fond of modern swiss architecture myself but where are the examples of affordable and efficient architecture for the masses that Switzerland needs? As much as I like the american or australian system where everyone owns a house, we don't have the space for this. This kind of architecture is the ugly side of exceptional population growth. It happened in the 60s and it's happening now. I would rather like to see high rise buildings but that's not popular and not cost effcient. And when it's not grey but colourful it's apparently not liked either.

The problem with colourful is, who chooses the colours? For example, I prefer grey concrete to the pinks and beige-y ochres that people here (and in many parts of the UK) seem to find entrancing as colour choices for buildings. If you let me choose, I'd paint everything sunburst yellow with orange stripes, but maybe others would find that offensive to their eyes.

Re: Grey grey, all is grey AND horrible!!

The weird thing is that the Swiss sell you those depressing crappy houses as Schweizer Kwalitat and the best quality in the world. I live in 4 different countries currently and I am a real estate expert, and by far you pay a lot for lousy quality. In other countries if the quality is crap, you pay less. Grey concrete, cheap laminate (= plastic) flooring, 70s kitchens and bathrooms, no luxury, sharing 1 washing machine with the entire block, and then they have nuclear proof basements. I guess they spend the money on that. BTW Holland its much more populated but the houses have much higher standards and are much bigger. Only in the old city centres the houses can be small and uncomfy but all new developments are much better and nicer made. If the Swiss think there is no space for more housing, then only allow 1 person in for each person leaving.. Space is a relative problem, its always about money. In Holland 90% of the country is green and its the most populated place in Europe

Just that you know, there is at least one flat in the country, the one I live in that:
- has a wonderful grey/yellow faillance with art nouveau entrance hall incl. nature stone steps
- has oak parquet every where
- has kitchen and bathroom datum 2007 brand-new
- has own washing machine and a shared one in the basement with nice neighbors for very nice zero-noise-disturbance night washing pleasures
- has no nuclear proof basement.

It may be the only building like that in the country. Might well be. I don't pretend I know, I am not a real estate expert like you.
