I agree, many of those I see hanging together in certain areas ren't actually drunk or taking drugs all the time. It often is just an image statement, sort of hobo wannabe new romantics, not saying all of them, but some for sure. Ton of them peeps I have met in my life were really just caught up in a transition phase, moved on laters. If I wanted to know more I think I would rather talk to them than ask posters here to elaborate on their personal stuff..

But: Looking "bad" or "ugly" is not really a hard, measurable fact, it is a matter of taste. I find many punk or goth outfits funny, interesting and, when done well, defenitely not ugly.

it is a question of taste. I think she was pretty and I think she did look ugly in punk. I don't like punk style. I don't like to see a huge metal ring in the ears lob of someone who makes a huge hole. I don't like to see tattoos everywhere on the body, I don't like to see so many piercing on someone's face. It is not in MY taste!

As much as it is their body and their life, they are not fitting in the society and they don't want to. No one wants to hire them and their look is the problem.

In my opinion, they can do whatever they want, as long as they are not disturbing me, and me not disturbing them. Live and let live.

But I still think it is an awful look.
