Warning! Off topic Rant in 3...2....1....

Today while scrolling around my email account I've noticed the following:

2 years ago this day I decided that I was going to work in CH and signed the contract. Yeah , yeah I know; I should only count when I arrived in CH or when I started working, but whateva'!; As when bungee jumping, sometimes the most exciting part is actually taking the decision.

2008 Was a rollercoaster year with a violent and unexpected death in the family, 2 master degree possibilities, a dead end job in a factory that would shortly close after I left. A girlfriend who eventhough I liked and appreciate (I mean something between like and love) left behind. Said girlfriend moved on to my former best friend and should in short be marrying him (dodged that bullet).

Would I change my decision to move to CH? No bloody way...!. I'd do it again and, if I could , I'd do it sooner.

What I found out:
- I managed to survive the first month with my (if you do the currency exchange) rather small savings from Mexico.
- Mexican Connections.. use them! I got to get out of the hostel I was living in (1 week) after somebody hook me up with a room and a borrowed matress. I found my apartment thanks to another mexican.
- People will forget you and move on, so you should do the same. I left for a reason, Both december's I went back, Mexico made it very clear that I should stay on this side of the pond.
- I don't have a girlfriend and really don't care. I mean I do, but not in the depressing I'm single and lonely crap.
- I can live without TV.
- And videogames.... ok not.
- that this is not Sweden
-That it's ok to be a loser, It has worked wonders for me. ! (newsradio quote) :P

I've yet to find:
-How to properly talk to girls in CH.
-Why people complain about canteen food in their work. Have you eaten at an assembly plant cafeteria on the graveyard shift?? I'd rather eat in jail.
-Why people think Mexico is in South America.
-Why some people see you as a "success" case back home, it's kinda weird.
-How to do a proper list of things that I've yet to find.
-Why people think that being 30 is still young. It is not, I'm sorry, deal with it. I'm 26 and see the newcomers and say: damn!

So, I thank the english forum for providing me valuable advise, a lot of entertainment and an even bigger assortment of WTF!! when I read what some weird people write

Cheers! (with red bull 'cause I don't drink)

Aside from the few genuine negatives (the long-term affects of most of which don't seem so negative after all), it sounds more like an emerging success story than a rant. (Nice try, though.)

Yes, his stroppy comment about 30 not being young shows, IMO, that youth is wasted on the young is quite true...

There was an excellent story on US National Public Radio a year or so ago where this randy 90 year old guy was asked what he wanted most -- and he said to be 30 again....

Given the chance to do exactly that, I wonder how many of us would actually live to see 30.

While I would not like to lose memory of all I have experienced and seen in the past three decades, just to become 30 again while retaining memory and experience would be tremendous. And I then would exactly fit the demand of the economy who look for people of less than 35 years of age but with 45 years of professional experience !

Hi all,

Thanks for reading and commenting.
I didn't have much time on the weekend to post a reply.

I see that my age comment raised more than eyebrows:

I did not mean you are old in the sense of "you are too old for this earth and slowing the pack". But too old to do the irresponsible things in life.

This came to my atteniton lately when I've noticed that a lot of my friends are getting married back in Mexico. Dealing with a mortgage at 25-27 seems a lil bit too much.
I then proceeded to think about the times were i was 16-21 and said ahh those were the days, not a care in the world, should have done a lot more.

Which leads me to The same conclusion as Texaner. I would definitely not live to see 30. But to be honest I never actually thought I would ever get to 30 anyways.

Depends on your inner soul My husband will be driving through Russia to the Pacific coast and back through all the "....stan" countries and Iran when he has his next 6-month sabbatical in 2013 (he'll be 57 then). I'll be joining him for part of the trip (Uzbekistan and Iran) on his way back (I'll be 55 then). I'm a bit apprehensive about the whole thing but - on the other hand - I can't wait to get started.

Who knows what we'll be like when we come home
