Auto Discount Uster - RANT

So recently I bought my first car in Switzerland.....in fact my first car in my life so it was very important to me! I really found the car I wanted and feel the price and quality are good but I have to share other points about this dealership that will make me never deal with them again.

1. There is practially zero customer service provided there. They are quiet happy to completely ignore you at the garage and make you feel you're doing them a disservice trying to buy a car there. I was even sent home once as the dealer didn't have time to let me test drive my car (which I had previously arranged).
2. Although I love my new car and think I got a good deal I noticed that the boot cover (which was present on my test drive) was missing when I bought it. Its my fault for only noticing a few days after I took it home. They have now said it never existed (yes it did) and if i can find one online I can contact them again for some kind of settlement. You can buy a transformers 1980's pencil parer on ebay but try finding this particular boot cover!!
3. They are impossible to contact via phone, e-mail or letter. I've spent about two weeks calling many many times per day to first confirm my lease was set up so I could pick up my car and more recently for this boot cover incident. They never return calls or e-mails and you just have to keep calling hoping you will luck out. Its beyong infuriating when they swear they will call me back and never do.

I had spoken to my friend about their attitude when I first got sent home without test driving the car. He said if the car has a good price and good quality then forget about their attitude and go for it. That is what I did in the end.
As mentioned I do love my new car however for me customer service is very important and i've probably only realised that now in my haste and naivety to get my first car.
I would say to anyone considering purchasing in this garage that you have two options
1) just go for the good deal and find the car you want and make sure its 100% got everthing you want. Forget about how ignorant they are and just get you and your car out of there
2) if you are looking for any semblance of customer service, friendliness, willingness to help etc then AVOID AVOID AVOID!!

All the best
Brian

Re: Auto Discount Uster - RANT

if the service was bad before you gave them your money then what did you expect after they had it?

unfortunatly most car dealers here seem to be the same, totally uninterested in there customers, we where ignored by lots of dealers when we where looking for a new car, god help them if the bad times really hit.

I gave the reasons why I handed over my money (ignore their attitude and go for the good car). It just turns out that I value a decent customer service a lot more than I thought and wanted anybody going there to be aware it doesn't exist. What little service was there when I was looking to part with my money has completely disappeared now.

Love(d) that car. My transmission went out after a year (was already 12 years old when I bought it) and I had to let it go. But I'm saving for another one :-) I just love the sound (and the kick) of the 3L V6 engine.
Just a pity that they're now selling the Kuga instead of it here in Europe - especially now that the 2009 model comes as a hybrid with excellent mileage.

They still have quite a few on autoscout24.ch
I was really surprised with the pick up it has on the roads. I'm only the 2.3l engline but loving it so far.

yeah, they're quite popular, so I'm hoping I'll find one with low mileage in November, when I get the 13th salary. I'll go for another 3L, though, because my wife won't let me buy a stick-shift (she hates those and since she'll have to drive it once in a while, I'm stuck with an automat)

Good rant and sorry to hear about your experience but I'm glad that you are at least happy with your car and, judging from the fact that a disproportionately large number of threads on here are on precisely this topic, I fear that your treatment was par for the course.

yeah, unfortunately it is - I got ripped of by car dealerships so many times in the last 15 years or so, I came to think that it's probably just the way things are.

There are some good ones (like Garage Lang in Kreuzlingen - Mercedes + Chrylser dealer with excellent customer service - just a pity that I'll never buy a Mercedes :-) but most are rubbish

Re: Auto Discount Uster - RANT

Auto Discount Uster (ADU) are a pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap car supermarket. They aim for high turnover on poorly prepped cars sold at cheap prices. I experienced the same level of service but didn't buy.

Garages seem to get a bad rep on here for poor service - but I have had excellent service from:
Baldegger (Volvo in St Gallen)
Pfenninger (Volvo in Kusnacht)
Alpina (BMW, Chur)
Seesicht (BMW, ??? somewhere down the lake)
Auto Center Sud (BMW, Zurich)
Titan (BMW, Zurich)

And that is before I get onto the used car places which were superb in Chur.

On the flipside, Vogelsang in Zumikon can be lumped in with ADU, as can F+G in Dubendorf. Gfenn oscillate from very good to very bad, depending on the salesman. The small place next to F+G seems to be OK.

The service you get a ADU is no worse or better than you would get from Motorpoint or Trade Sales in the UK.

I'd disagree there, at the car warehouses in the uk the 'salesmen' will be all over you like a rash trying to get you to part with your money, of course once you have then they'll never want to hear from you again.

This is what I would have expected too. At least in that situation you have some bargaining chips. however at ADU once you have to approach these guys with a view to test driving or buying a car you've just stacked all the chips on their side of the table.

I'm sure you'll be fine. You won't be needing the clutch too much if you're stationary.

Re: Auto Discount Uster - RANT

Exceptional levels of service can be found...

Try these guys in Baar. OK not the cheapest in the world but the service is incredible, always have a spare car to drive and they even let me have a Lexus 450h for a week whilst my 300 was being repaired.

In fact I would say that Martin the Manager went beyond the call of duty on several occasions picking up keys from me at work and then buying wine from me to boot. Super garage totally professional, exceptional quality and very very friendly.

Seems like a good recommendation, thanks. I'm definitely not saying that good service doesn't exist out there but just that at this garage I dealt with you won't find any.

I'm thinking of buying a Mitsubishi Outlander from there and figured the same as you. Great deal but forget about the service.

By the way, cheer up. I happen to have a 2003 Maverick with a boot cover. (I assume you mean the hard wearing rubber mat on the boot floor?) Anyway, if I do a deal then you can have the boot cover for free before I hand my car over as a trade in!

Hi Neil

Thanks thats really nice of you. When I say boot cover though its not the mat on the floor but the thing you pull from the back of the back seats to the boot door so people can't look in your window and see whats in the boot (kind of like a window blind but horizontal). Don't suppose you have one of those instead?

Just be careful with these Auto Discount people. I hope you have a better experience than me.

Brian
