YES! I have sent my husband out to buy fans for tonight! I hate the humidity. You would think I was use to it from living in Florida...yet I don't think anyone truly gets use to feeling sticky and dirty all the time;( OOOO and I am not soo good at Super Swiss Cold either...Why does the Fall and Spring have to be sooooooo short? I feel soo much pitty for the women I see all around town about to POP out a baby.....I couldn't imagine it in this weather.

If you strip down into your birthday suit and you are still hot and sweaty, there is nothing more to do...
exactly so you might as well enjoy it! personally i grew up in ny where you'd have 95 degrees with much more humidity than this (in fact i feel this is much more dry heat, but to each his own!) or as it is there these days, 103.5 with humidity, but real humidity.

much better to have fans going than ac going- for the short amount of time we'll have this weather, enjoy it and hop to the pool right after work, jump in the lake, etc. it is this kind of weather that gives a great excuse to do these kinds of crazy things (along with sitting naked in your house, if you feel you need an excuse for that, there you go!)

oh. and p.s. here is someone who truly loves the humidity- lived in the dry heat and the humid heat and i'll take humid every time...mmm...

And I always prefer cold to hot. The thing about cold is that there is always something more you can put on. But in the heat, there is only so much you can take off. If you strip down into your birthday suit and you are still hot and sweaty, there is nothing more to do...
This, oh this!!

I LOVE the wintertime, and I love the cold, the rain, the snow, etc. If it's cold, you can curl up under the covers, or put on a sweater, or enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee/cocoa/tea/etc.

I walked around my apartment in just a tank top and underwear yesterday, it still doesn't help And I take cold showers, which feel like heaven when you're in them, but ugh, as soon as you get out....

Re: It's so damn hot

try sitting with your feet in a small tub of cold water, it really helps to cool you down as your blood transports the cold throughout your body.

I love this type of weather by the way I am already looking forward to my cycle home later today (8 km with 100m climb in 35 C, hmmm ). But I also love the big thunderstorms that come after a hot day and looking at 20min.ch, we'll have some big'uns tonight

Also I'm happy I'm not the only one walking around the house in just some underpants, I was afraid I was turning into a dirty old man

Re: It's so damn hot

I'm with you.

It's not so much the heat, but the poor ventilaton. I live on the top floor of a building, we have a roof which is nearly flat, and the west facing wall of our flat is pretty much glass. So it's like living in a greenhouse. And our windows, while large, don't open enough.

RIght now, while the sun is on the other side of the building, I have all of the windows open to air out the place. I'm going to start putting down blinds now though to keep things cool. And when the blinds are down, one doesn't have to worry about the appropriateness of one's attire.

Also the ozone levels are a bit high, so that also decreases your enjoyment.

I lived in North Carolina for 12 years, and it would be hotter than this, and more humid, but everything was over airconditioned. Here at least it cools down at night so one can sleep. At 6Am, and by 9PM, it's quite pleasant too. But daytime is often a waste.

I also worry about my pup who is simply miserable in the heat. But if I open the doors, she runs around in the cooler morning and then sleeps through the afternoon. Today though, we have to go to the vet for a rabies shot. At the hottest time of the day too. Well, I have a/c in the car at least. Such fun.

Re: It's so damn hot

I love this weather. Absolutely thrive on it. I am also glad that we have not succumbed to the uselessly energy-guzzling, noisy, never correctly regulated and instantly cold-inducing madness that is air conditioning. Correctly built houses and good practice like letting the cool morning air in and then shutting the windows and putting the blinds down a bit mean that your home shouldn't really overly warm (apartments under the roof are exempt, they are ALWAYS boiling). If it's really bad, then get one of those fans that swivels but beware of stiff necks if you point it at your bed...

Hopefully this lovely summer with the occasional downpour like this morning will last, I feel like I'm on holiday. It'll be cold soon enough and as a sufferer of Raynaud's Disease, the cold is literally painful and crippling, even with gloves and all. But I don't go round whingeing about it, I fit my lifestyle to the conditions and dream about summers like these.

Re: It's so damn hot

I laugh when people say it's hot.

Or even worse when they say it's humid.

Seriously, this is nothing compared to most places.

I am enjoying the nice weather personally. Yes, the building aren't built for heat and my apt is too hot, but I am loving it way more than the rainy cold winter-ish weather we had from April-June.

Enjoy!

Move to Scotland if you don't like pleasant weather or the sun.

Just because it isn't a desert here doesn't mean it isn't hot.

Re: It's so damn hot

I'm among those walking around in bare minimum. When it's time to open up blinds and windows in the evening, I simply also throw on a loose skirt so that the neighbors aren't all getting out their binoculars.

The dry vs humid heat thing... I like it like this, about medium. My skin is delicate and my allergies fierce, if it is too dry, my skin cracks (allergic to many creams) and my allergies go nuts from the dust.

If it is too humid though, blech. I remember the misery of having to wear nylons in Daytona Beach in the summer. No, thanks! (My skin looked great though but different - and much worse - allergies there.) In one of the CSI Miami episodes one of the comments was that they knew someone was a tourist because women who live in Miami don't wear nylons. They have the right idea for sure!

The tank and undies is good, the rest not so much.

Take warm or hot showers as the cold causes your pores to contract, making your body heat up more once you're out because you're not sweating "enough." Also, going from the hot shower to the "less hot" air makes the air seem a bit cooler.

The other thing is to drink hot or room-temperature drinks as your body heats up in response to the cold coming in. As much as my mouth and tongue like cold / iced drinks, it is actually more refreshing to the body to have something not-so-cold.

I am contemplating getting a child's wading pool to stick on the terrace so hubby and I can sit with our feet in.

Speaking of kids pools, where were the ones like this when we were kids?

Who loves it hot and sweaty?

I love this weather!!! I used to live in the sub-tropics, so I know searing dry heat and steaming humidity.
Personally I prefer it humid. I can really enjoy sitting in the shade motionless whilst sweat rolls down my shins. It's like a drug, pretty soon things start getting a bit surreal. Everything slows down and there's nothing to do but sweat.
I wouldn't ever go back to that region of Australia to live again, it was too extreme, but these lovely little summers that they throw here are perfect.
To all those too hot members out there, immerse yourselves immediately, don't dry off and go sit in the shade and wait for the hint of a breeze.

I am one of those women - being 38 weeks pregnant in this heat is no joke... I'm longing for rain and cooler temperatures (my mum in Ireland, where it is currently autumnal in the middle of summer, thinks I'm mad)...

On the one hand, I wish the baby would make an appearance soon but on the other, I know that the hospital is going to be so warm and barely airconditioned (I have visitied already and sweated the whole time) that I'm hoping that the heatwave has gone by the time I have to give birth!

Well, I dunno about anyone else but I sure am. I was able to sleep last night without a fan on, it was lovely!

Alas, we're due to heat up again tomorrow so I will enjoy this cool while it lasts.
