| | Re: I want to shoot that B**** | Quote: | | | | | What really annoys me is when I ring my family during the day and my Mum takes ages to answer the phone because ... she's sunbathing in the garden (as it's 24 degrees), and my partner is drinking iced frapuccinos to try and cool down.
What lovely sunny city do my family live in? London. This is not fair. | | | | | I spend a week per month in L-Town and the weather there always seems better than ZH. Although there are periods in the winter of pure sunshine out here which are just grand.

| | Re: I want to shoot that B**** | Quote: | | | | | I thought this was normal weather for this time of year. It don't remember it being much different last year, or the year before that, or the year before that even.
Summer IME tends to arrive at the end of July where we have a couple of weeks of stupidly uncomfortable scorching weather. If past experiences ring true this, and the entire summer will be brought to a close with a massive thunderstorm mid August, and we'll be back to rainy grey again.
At least we don't have droughts here | | | | | I can tell you, last summer was awesome! It was good from the very beginning of spring! We had such a nice summer!
The year before is when we arrived here and it was the same shitty weather as this year!

Wait 48 hours to read the mood change: man it's too hot, I can't find enough shade, the grass is going brown, the neighbors are barbecuing at 1am etc.... yawn

Then I started at the end of September and it was still beautiful weather. I thought this place is awesome.

| | Re: I want to shoot that B**** | Quote: | | | | | A couple of weeks after we moved here (it was mid-May) we had a hot spell and were cursing the apartment for not having a/c. Two weeks after that we realised it was not so necessary! The next year again it would have been nice - for about 10 days. | | | | | I had the opposite reaction - the first summer I moved to Switzerland was the awful summer of 2003, 40+ for weeks.
I just moved to Manchester, everyone's warned me about the rain here, but it is no more rainy than Basel ever was but much less hot. Thankfully.

For me, Swiss summer has always consisted of going into crops and shorts come mid-May, then wearing them every single day until mid-September. I remember clearly, because I was so astonished - I knew all about winter in Switzerland before we moved over, had seen pics of pretty chalets with a foot of snow on the roof, etc, but I never knew they had such excellent summers.
Today, though, I've just got home from shopping having battled on my bike up the hill to my village against a raging headwind threatening rain, all bundled up in jeans and a fleece.
It gives it nice this weekend, then wet and cold again next week. Which is unfortunate for my son, who's going camping with his class - real camping, with no electricity or showers. I'll make sure I've got plenty of hot water and hot chocolate ready when he gets back on Wednesday...

I think we had such a wonderful summer last year, we will pay for it for the next few years... it started early and finished late..we even celebrated my daughter's 1st birthday outside beginning of September.. coming from 4 sticky summers in Shanghai, I perfectly remember how beautiful it was here..sun, hot but not humid..heaven.. and I remember that it hardly rained as my main of transport is my bike..
I just proved my husband this morning that there will be no need to take an abo to our beautiful local swimming pool this year. It will be not worth it... If we can enjoy a good summer , I will go crazy as I 'm not a skier and hate winter and snow... and before you ask me why I am here then, I actually know quite a few Swiss who also don;t like winter sports and being cold. I'd rather be living in Dublin , with that weather or even back in North England..

i noticed that in many religions there are special prayers and rituals to bring rain.....but there are none to bring the sun. Even God has forgotten to create a request form for this small piece of land-

For me the weather is an important factor of my moral I'm afraid.. This is why i left England and moved to hot countries. lack of vitamin D and sun affects us, it is a fact...

Then again, I also have cops patrolling my neighborhood on horseback ... rain or shine (yes, must get back to the original topic...heh).

Even God has forgotten to create a request form for this small piece of land- | | | | | If you have ever lived for a long time in places where the sun can be immediately deadly, you would understand why. Coincidentally, this is also where these rain-songs come from.
I spent 6 months in the burning bush in SW Mali. The hottest temperature we recorded was 52 deg C in the shade. Nights were a balmy 30 - 35 deg.
I would be out there in the shimmering heat with my crew, being chased by dust devils, while the locals and the mad dogs laughed at us from the cool shade of their roundels.
One morning, unbeknownst to me, a tree branch punched a 10 rappen sized hole in my sombrero. By 2 pm, I was vomiting and hallucinating, and having iced water poured on my head.
Back on topic, I think the real difference this year has been the extremely cold temperatures. I remember crummy summers over the last few years in Zurich, but none were so cold.
I, and a lot of other geologists / geophysicists I know reckon a new ice-age is on its way; time to invest in Greek property perhaps? http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/05/2...ince-may-2008/
Cheers
Jim

Have you been to wilmslow road (curry mile) yet? Restaurant called Sanam is awesome, there are a lot of nice Indian restaurants there
Akbars is awesome too. http://www.akbars.co.uk/

I was in Geneva for a week, we had a bit of rain last week, then sunny.
Wednesday was sunny, I had to come to Zürich to attend some business, from Solothurn on, rain. I called my friend in Geneva, it was still sunny there, all day. I'll go back today.
Today is 12° and raining in Zürich, 18°C and overcast in Geneva, Lugano 25°C and sunny Quite a difference huh?
I want to move to Ticino, if I could find a job there even as a Pizzaiolo I'd move tomorrow.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
I'd rather be in Narsarsuaq, Greenland where it at least is 14C + sunny today.
