No - my 'Move Thread to Trash' finger is too hot to function. My 'Merge all Weather Rant Threads' finger is still working though, so I managed to do that. | The following 2 users would like to thank Longbyt for this useful post: | |

exactly, i don't know if in the states we are a bit more used to the extremes of temperature differences or what, but in new york it was just 103.5 f the other day and compared to temperatures that easily go below freezing in the winter the difference i've felt here is minimal. usually i'd say it's cold and cool, but the delicious heat of the last couple of weeks is making me very happy, at least until i get to ny in a few weeks for the heat and humidity, which is, for me, paradise!

| | Re: Weather rant | Quote: | | | | | This is what Im doing and its certainly helping :
I half close the blinds during the day, and pull down the shades.
When I get home at 6 pm, I splash the balcony concrete with cold water , till its not sizzling-evaporating anymore. Then I open the door, and the water cools any air coming in.
I sprinkle around a lot of cold water on all the rugs in the house , a few times till bedtime.
I've got 2 table fans , one on either side of the bed, put them on full speed. When its too hot, I keep a shallow bowl of ice in front of the fans, seems to help.
I've been sleeping a lot better with all this. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Get yourself an office fan. Set it up facing your bed. Fill a garden sprayer with water and, whilst naked on the bed, spray the water up in the air towards the fan. The fan will blow cool water drops over you and cool you down and you will sleep easily.
Be sure to send me a photo so I'm sure you're doing it right. | | | | | Evaporative cooling is the "technical" term for this, and it really works. Here's a site with more tips on how to make your own. Edit: Another instructional site. (Still waiting for the photo, Begga.)

Well it's pouring down rain, with occasional hail south of Bern. Perhaps you'll get it soon too....
Temp has dropped quite a bit.

Bahaha. When my hubby and his brother came to California this summer to help me move out here to CH, it was the first time either one of them had experienced California heat (but it's a dry heat, right? haha).
Poor guys...the day we moved all my crap out of my apartment, it was over 100 degrees F.
Anyway, my hubby had been complaining before (in early June) about all the rain you guys were getting here, and I told him that as soon as I came out here the warm weather would undoubtedly follow. I love the cold, the rain, storms, etc. and HATE hot weather...the past week I've been afraid that I'm going to melt away I am used to hot weather but definitely NOT used to not having an a/c.....

| | It's so damn hot
Being from California, I am no stranger to hot weather. However, I'm NOT used to living without air conditioning. It's freakin' hot!! It is SO warm in my apartment right now, and I can't keep the windows at night because there's a very curious neighbor kitty that will come in my apartment if I do.
I can't wait for fall/winter to roll around...

Yep, I agree. I am a spring and fall girl b/c the weather is more moderate. I hate extreme heat. And supposedly this is "abnormal" for Switzerland, but when I interviewed here last summer at this time, it was the same.
Blech! I hate feeling like I need a shower one foot out the door after just having taken one...

There's a thread out there somewhere about it being so damn cold. Suggest you read that and then post back which you'd prefer.
I think you'll find that it's the humidity that drains you and makes you feel sticky and uncomfortable. I've worked in temps at 50 deg C in the desert out near Edwards AFB and although it's obviously hot, it was a dry heat that seared, but didn't make you feel sweaty and generally unclean.

And I remember that thread (about the cold). And I always prefer cold to hot. The thing about cold is that there is always something more you can put on. But in the heat, there is only so much you can take off. If you strip down into your birthday suit and you are still hot and sweaty, there is nothing more to do...
