When I chuck my strid bag out I make sure that I am seen as having the right one especially by some of the really nosy neighbours and always take a long time to walk to the bins, chatting to anyone!!!
The other week I ran out and could not get into town to buy 10 more so I used a black one. I was so paranoid that I took it in the car with me to the UK so I could put it in a bin in France | This user would like to thank smackerjack for this useful post: | |

I would rather annoy some jobsworth than have my kitchen smelling and attracting flies.
But then again, I'm not very Swiss.............I like to think I have a life. | | | | | Wow, that's some civil disobedience. You must have big cojones. May I call you "La Resistance" from now on.

I didn`t understand about the garbage bags at first. I used white ones that I brought with me from the States, then I used the Coop ones until I happened to be in the post office one day and saw them and read on EF that I was to use a special bag. | | | | | Hasn't everyone made this mistake ? I still have two bedrooms full of cardboard and windows shelves full of bottles. I'll get there in the end.

On this topic, do people throw diapers away in the official garabage bags? I do, but I was told by quite a few people that they don't bother (since its own bin that needs to be constantly emptied), and the city is ok with that. ??

I would really love to explore the mind set of this person or family. Do they think they are smart or something? I was close to taking their bag out and sifting through it to nail them. The second option was to take the bag out and leave it on the path with a note saying "Use proper bags you egoistisch Schwein".
In the end I decided that bitching about it on EF would be a better option | | | | | They are NOT smart at all. The rubbish workers may well put those Sacks aside and hand it over to police, who then will open them and try to find out the culprits. And the penalties are considerable ! |

I wonder who the real culprit is | | | | | I might be ready to defend the "foreigners" but if it is the Swiss, it is idocy indeed. And the authorities may accept the apologies of some foreigners, but not of Swiss people. Unless they have just moved downtown from a remote rural area of the Canton of Schwyz |

When we just arrived here we were living in Triemli. Our relocation agency made a point of telling us that we had to use Zuri Bags, so we did.
As luck would have it there was someone else in the building using the regular black bags but because we were the new auslanders they assumed it was us and we got a warning letter taped to our door!
Luckily it was only temporary accomodation so we didn't stay long enough to get a fine! |

In Lausanne there are very sensible citizens. No special bags or stickers are needed. The cost goes on the general taxation, and about 20 fewer people are employed.
However, it is very difficult to get the foreigners to put the rubbish in the containers!
So all you mean bag people, the next time you go near Bern, just pop down to Lausanne and dump those mattresses you still have after Aunt Hilda died.

What exactly are these "Zuri" sacks? So they're white, I guess they've got a tax on them that covers the rubbish pick-up service?
I've never seen such bags over here, all I know is that Coop and Migros sell black bags which I've always bought, and always used for my trash. Never had an issue with them.
Are the Zuri bags a Zurich thing? Over here our common trash room clearly states to just wrap up the rubbish in one of the standard rubbish bags (the black ones I mentioned before), and it is exactly what I've seen every other household do in this community I live in...

In many other places, you use the normal bags, but have to affix stickers. Be aware however that the stickers very often are more expensive than the "authorized bags".

Never had to put any sticker in place... maybe where I've lived, we've payed it all through taxes?

Of course, where I live they now have common collection, eco points where one takes one's rubbish. The downside of this is that when there is a lot of trash, people just leave the sacks next to the underground bin and the animals rip through it. |

It wasn't taken, and I got a nice little note explaining why. Nobody ended up subsidising my rubbish collection, as it simply wasn't collected.
Assuming the same thing will happen in this case, why is it your problem? Or are the collectors taking the sacks anyway?
