Why post office charge me so much for online shopping from aboard

I recently bought a pair of Yonex badminton shoes from UK website, and I paid the postage when I order it, today when I received it, I found I have to pay another 26 CHF, I looked the bill, about 7.6 is the TAX, but they charge another 18 CHF for service, didn't I already paid the bill when I order it?
this is what list in the invoice that post office gives me
:Droits de T.V.A /MWSt.-Abgaben Quittance/Quittung 7.85
Services/Dienstleistungen Dedouanement facile/vereinfachte Verzollung 18.00

it supposed to be a good deal before, but with this extra charges...,
and I used to do a lot online shopping when i was in UK, now, can anybody knows a cheap way to do online shopping?

The admin charge covers the process of appraising the value of the item and administrating the MWSt charge.

Switzerland is not in the EU. You are importing goods and have to pay for that process.

If ordering from the EU then you either need to ensure that the MWSt due is less than CHF5 (in which case you will pay nothing) or that the saving you make compared to Swiss prices exceed the import charges.

As others have pointed out, the CHF18- admin fee is for assessing the MWST due on the item you've ordered.

The trick, if you want to avoid this fee, is to keep your order total (including postage) under CHF63-. Otherwise, count on paying the fee. I've discovered that Swiss customs officials are incredibly thorough -- every package I receive is inspected and tax is routinely collected on higher-value goods.

If you're ordering from an EU country, the vendor should be able to sell you the goods without VAT. That doesn't mean that they will (either because they don't understand the process, don't want the hassle, or want to pocket the money themselves) but in theory an export sale should not attract VAT.

Hi Erwin,

In case you want to import (e-shopping) in the future, keep in mind the following.

For everything you import you pay 7,6 % VAT, UNLESS the total value of the product is less that 65 CHF. Now, there is a problem if what you want to import is ... special category product (Alcohol, smoke, etc).

Now let's say that your goods cost MORE than 65 CHF. You will pay 7,6 VAT, plus 18 CHF, AND in case your order has a ... problem (that could be anything, unclear description in the invoice, or something that will look "funny" or "strange" to the customs people) then your item will stay in the warehouse as long as it takes to get the situation clear. That means that for everyday it stays in the warehouse YOU will be charged for storage-fees.

My opinion, when you order something, all the documentation SHOULD BE crystal clear.

All this info I have extracted from the Swiss Post Office Service.

Personally, I have ordered 4 times from UK (video-games) and 1 time from USA (motorcycle leather jacket) and never had any problem at all (Thank God).

Good luck next time !
