washing machine broken... on friday...

So i was washing my gi's on an old washing machine in the building.

After a while I came down to take a look and the machine was off. funny smell on the room. Seems something burned on the machine.

Being friday no one is available on the phones for the landlord and I'm thinking I might have to call an electricist or something saturday morning.

Any suggestions on what to do.???

Re: washing machine broken... on friday...

We would notify our hauswart (Caretaker) when that sort of thing would happen.. Perhaps give them a try?

Re: washing machine broken... on friday...

I've just drained the water and took my clothes out, now to see if I can get a hang of someone (landord, janitor) etc.

Re: washing machine broken... on friday...

There is an emergency release for the door to be used in situations like this.

Why is your landlord not available on a Friday? That's a week day..unless you mean after hours. But it is perfectly acceptable to call on Saturday morning.

As a courtesy to the other tenants, you should put a note on the machine "defekt". Then the landlord might have others calling and that means he will be more motivated to get onto the problem.

Did you check the fuses/breaker switches? (assuming you have access to them which may or may not be the case).

Also, just a reminder, in some places the machines still shut down over the lunch hour (in my village between 11 and 12 even in the summer) but they automatically restart.

But, as it looks, it happened on Friday late afternoon or even evening. So that the time to get service is Monday morning, with the servicing chaps arriving either Monday afternoon or on Tuesday.

It was friday afternoon, I called the hauswart. I drain the water saturday morning and release to get my stuff out.

Sign has been put on the machine. :P

My assumption of the problem seems to be a band on the washing machine that breaks/burns to avoid damaging the motor.
