Is that the right document? I wasn't the shipper, I was the recipient, I didn't make any prior agreement or contract with the transport company.
Basically don't order anything at all online for delivery to CH. The same would happen if you ordered in the USA to anywhere in the EU, however Swiss VAT is lower so for high value items it's a good deal.

Re: [Rant] DHL import tax!

Depending on the specific circumstances there might not be a contract between you and DHL, which would mean they'd have to get their money from the seller...

... but do you really want to get blacklisted by DHL for not paying up?

I expect it to be covered in the cost they were paid by the shipper to transport a declared item to an address in switzerland.
Last package I got from Germany via DHL Express (last month), it WAS included in the shipping price, I just had to pay the VAT, so maybe they've changed.

Indeed, either under CHF 62, or over several hundred, and it makes sense.

The zone in between is where it doesn't make sense.

I have the same issue and see it the same as Reids.

I have paid for the delivery charge and for me that should cover all the costs necessary for the Service Providers (UPS, DHL, Swiss Post...) or they should inform recipients and include it in the delivery cost right at the beginning. It is clear that SP is not in the positions to pay the VAT or custom costs for us.

The SPs is doing business here and that they pay the VAT in advance and make the clearance for the package delivered are all part of their 'standard' routine. Or they should say they cannot deliver their so-called 'door-to door' INTERNATIONAL delivery service with the cost they listed and there WILL always Vorlageprovision/additional charges/hidden charges upfront. (I hope you guys can still follow me.)

It is a hidden cost/ rip off. I have written to the SP and been on the phone for ages with both billing department and customer services. They just gave me this standard explanation and said they can do nothing about it.

It is a 'dirty' business practice, imho. If you have an account with the Custom Authority, you do not have to pay this Vorlageprovision, but how many people will open/ be eligible to open an account at the Custom Authority??

I paid my my VAT but am still fighting for the Vorlageprovision. Do you guys think it is possible to fight it off?

Thanks!!!

No.
I think you are talking about admin fees and they will charge them. That's the rules.

Re: [Rant] DHL import tax!

Hi CorsebouTheReturn ,

Thanks for your reply.

It is the rules, but a rip-off rule that is unfair to consumers.

The rule was packed as 'hidden costs' structure so that SP (DHL/UPS and the rest) can take advantage of normal consumers.

It is a matter of logic/ principles. The 'admin costs' were not communicated clearly at the beginning. There is no billing with delivery and 'admin costs' when the delivery order is placed. They may as well suddenly increase the cost 100 folds (it is exaggerated to demonstrat how bad/unfair the situation could be) and recipients have no choice but pay whatever amount the SP requests?

The delivery service showed the delivery time, e.g. 7 days, and the cost that is attached for this delivery service. It never explains that this 7 day-delivery-service is not achievable (1) without additional admin. work that would costs recipient additional costs or (2) without the precondition that the recipient has an account with the Customs. Does it really make sense?

I order 3 CD's from amazon.ca as I couldn't find them anywhere else. They came to a total of $CAD 25.97 (about CHF 26), and were delivered pretty swiftly about a month ago.
What were the 3 CD's ??
Sorry, I just saw this message. The CDs were going back to some old skool stuff from The Tragically Hip.
