I had to take a flight Lisboa-Zürich.
At the time, there was the policy you are not allowed to have liquids/ creams over 200 ml. My bottle was 220 ml, was no longer full, and I had a doctor prescription. They refused to let me take it inside the flight (which was over 2 hours till I got my luggage back). They refused my doctor letter and my medical condition. I had to ship it to my mother in Porto, who sent it to me back to Zürich (I didn't have an adress yet at the time) - this, btw, means walking about 500 meters on an agonizing knee to go to the post office, stand in line for 15 agonizing minutes, and coughing an agonizing price for the package, then extra 15 minutes to do security check again. I spent 5 days in utter pain. The Airline/ Airport say basically they don't give a crap about medical conditions: rules are rules.
I haven't used Lissabon Airport ever since and advise all people I know to do the same. |

Of course I meant inflammable....my brain doesn't work properly because on top my daughter was robbed last night, all her money and ID gone. Just sent some money through Western Union.

Meds in Spain are really cheap, she should be able to go to a pharmacy and get one for not much.
Could she spoke with someone from the airport? What did they say? Does she had the intention to come in Barcelona city for visiting?

And the suitcase has not been traced yet.

So my 16-year old has been in Spain for three days without any of her belongings and I'm getting angry about the way Lufthansa is handling this. LH Germany says they can't do anything because the loss was claimed in Barcelona. The phone number of the baggage claim in Barcelona was out of order until half an hour ago. The online tracing tells me they are still searching - but where for God's sake? Either her bag was left in Frankfurt or it went to the wrong baggage claim belt in Barcelona or it was flown to Bangkok and they keep telling me they can't find out where it is? There must be a suitcase somewhere with LH that nobody has taken, why is it so difficult to find it?
Not to mention that Western Union in Spain doesn't hand out money to people under age and I had to renew the money transfer after she had somebody over 18 who was willing to help her, so now at least she has some money.
What a nightmare vacation for her, first time ever without her parents and all this shit happens.

She should go to the shops and buy things she needs each day (soap, toothbrush, underwear etc.). and keep receipts. Travel insurance will take care of it, if reasonable, once she returns.

LH won't care. They'll pay out the minimum. This is Switzerland; there must be some insurance which will cover it |

I had something similar in 2002 on a trip to Dubai. A lymph-system problem. And feared the journey. But it went fairly well, and after the transfer to the hotel gradually realized that the dry and hot and seaside climate of Dubai was exactly what I needed. And I of course cared about it right before and right after the trip.

This is Switzerland; there must be some insurance which will cover it | | | | | Sorry Sir, this here is the EU. Why ? Because Switzerland not only took over the EU-laws in this regard but also because Switzerland is a full member of ECAC (the civil aviation branch of the EU). And LH will pay the same inside Germany as well. Further on, do not forget that Zurich (together with Frankfurt, München and Wien) is one of the homebases of the Lufthansa Group.
You further on have to see that the liabilities of airlines are regulated by ICAO of which Switzerland is a full member. Beside the point that Switzerland is a signatory country of the Warsaw-Agreement and the DenHaag Protocols.
HOWEVER, medicaments are not given a higher value PER KILO by the ICAO-rules than other merchandise ! Which means that the high value of medicaments may only partially be covered. The rules, to which you as a passenger sign up when ordering your ticket, further on clearly stipulate that the transporting carrier is NOT liable for "lost profits" nor for potential health problems resulting from air travel.
You can order (against some heavy payment) the relevant documentation from ICAO Montreal and IATA (Montreal+Geneva). Or you might consult your family lawyer

If you cover a private insurance, the valuable stuff inside is NOT to be more than 50% of the total, which means that if you have cameras with you to the value of CHF 2000.-- you have to cover for CHF 4000.--, even if the non-camera stuff has only a value of CHF 400.--

That's why they weight it and give you the luggage receipts with a weight printed on them. There will be a min. per kg that they need to pay you, something like CHF 20 USD per kilo. You should find the conditions on the airline's website, with the booking details or on the back of the boarding card stub.
The airlines will also pay an amount per day when a bag is delayed or up until the bag is deemed lost. This amount is only claimable if you spend the money and you keep your receipts. BA was £20 per day on essentials (clothes + toiletries) when I lost my bag. Bags returned to you within 24h I don't believe there is any compensation. The last time our bags were not at Zurich when we arrived we were so pleased we didn't have to take them back to Zug. They arrived both times by courier the following day.
My private travel insurance didn't cover bags lost by the airline. The policy had loss and theft covered but had a clause that denied losses in the hands of an airline.
