Of course. If I was just seeing Marina that would be totally different, and not for this forum

That very much depends on environment.

I can state for a fact that in 1970s and 80s Cannock, one's only exposure to classical music came from Cadbury's Fruit and Nut adverts.

I wouldn't deny for a minute that students attended classical concerts in the 60s and 70s, of course, and that numbers of young people attending concerts may have dropped since then, but the fact that commercial radio stations such as Classic FM (in the United Kingdom) exist shows that somebody is listening to classical music.

Could it be that as people hit 40 or 50 and tire of listening to Radiohead, they move onto something more pleasant on the ear, and end up listening to Your 100 Easy Classics?
Certainly it depends on environment. My brothers and I grew up with classical music on the turntable every day. Names like Heifitz, Perlman, Rubinstein, and Horowitz were as normal to us as Billy Joel or Fleetwood Mac (yes, this was the late 70's-early 80's ). It was never forced on us though. I remember spending hours as a little kid pulling out each record and staring at the jacket... Deutsche Grammophon, Mercury Living Presence, the crazy looking conductors with crazy names like Antal Dorati. And up we grew and off we went to scour the earth for the most obscure ear wrenching noise a cheap guitar through a cheaper amplifier could make- but it always made an impression on me when I'd catch Dad listening to his music alone. Coke bottle eyeglasses in one hand, the other pressing in his eyes to shut out everything but sound alone, 220 pounds of 6'3" hulk huddled in a chair. Sets a mind to wondering... There's so much to know and learn about classical music, but the beauty of it is that the beauty is all that matters. Being exposed early gets it in the system, and it helps having parents who can guide the exposure while not chiding for listening to filthy RocknRoll. Little Person® loves it, now her dad is just hoping that he might spark an interest in Captain Beefheart one day... but not counting on it .

We'd want photos and/or video footage, all the same.

Then you and I could compare notes...

We are pulling it OT, aren't we...with the kids and all

I wonder if it is easier these days with the new technology and lack of actual musical skills to make really bad stuff, I really like the availability on one hand and what people managed to do with it, creatively, but with an instrument, no pain no gain kinda made sense..Maybe I just don't trust electronics all that much, need to feel the instrument breathe and live under my fingers, the real deal..But hats down to anyone new or old who is creative, using whatever that has soul, or does not but they manage to breathe it in.

Very sweet. Makes me think of my fav Nat King Cole...

Now, this is rather energizing, I like this, it's not even modern anymore. Old ear candy.

...so, I seriously cannot take this insipid, annoying, redundant cacophony also known as modern music anymore. It's everywhere...you can hardly escape it..and it's loitering in the minds of the people. What happened to good music...to real music, which you simply could bump in the stereo and it made you feel good. I've included this youtube video of one of my favorite artists...I hope ya'll enjoy it.
It is not the music, it is you. You are obviously getting old

Here's a classical music instrument finding a place in modern music.
Any cello fans out there? This guy is amazingly talented.

Re: Don't call my name, don't call my name Alejandro (or the modern music rant)

I have to share one of the best bands I´ve heard in a long time (apart from Hurts), this girl (daughter from Sting) has an amazing voice and the music is fresh-80´s-dad´s old style-popish I can´t really say, but I really love it, esp these two songs:

plus-I think she is beautiful! I´m amazed she isn´t more appreciated.

People mostly tired of Radiohead after OK Computer. Nothing to do with age. I've heard they are better again now but is it really worth taking the chance?

There's always been a minority of good stuff mixed in with an awful lot of dross. Jus that everyones opinion of what is good and what is dross is different.

Real music fans know that Kid A is a much better album than Ok Computer.

Real music fans don't listen to tripe like Radiohead.

The guitar is dead. Long live the hurdy gurdy!

absolute rubbish! Despite their commercial success Radiohead are a very decent band.

Kid A has the least guitar of all their albums so...

What has commercial success got to do with a band being crap or not?

I recall that the Beatles were quite popular in their day...

nothing at all, but it is a common occurrence that as soon as a band achieves commercial success, that the hipsters of this world write them off.

Don't get me started on the Beatles..

You do realise you're arguing with DB on modern music. He thinks Engelbert Humperdink is avant garde and pops in Cliff Richards to seduce a woman.
