Actually little kids go crazy after classical music, if they are exposed to it. It is expressive and surprising, speaks the same language.

I think in the past people were exposed to it a lot more, maybe earlier, more systematically.
Following your comment, I thought I'd try and expose our children to some classical contemporary music.

Unfortunately it did not have the desired effect and they didn't seem too interested...

Maybe I chose the wrong piece?

...so, I seriously cannot take this insipid, annoying, redundant cacophony also known as modern music anymore. It's everywhere...you can hardly escape it..and it's loitering in the minds of the people. What happened to good music...to real music, which you simply could bump in the stereo and it made you feel good. I've included this youtube video of one of my favorite artists...I hope ya'll enjoy it.
Thought you might enjoy this...

Not to mention the really awful early 70's. If you have Lady Gaga's 'Alejendro' stuck in your head, listen to this little gem from 1974. It's guaranteed to stick in your head and make you wish 'Alejendro' would come back.

Oh nooooooooo! "They're heeeere.'
The little voices in my head have just started siiinginggg.
Againnnnnnn!

Re: Don't call my name, don't call my name Alejandro (or the modern music rant)

Listened to "You and Me" from Milow on the radio. The lyrics are sick.

From "words of a twisted mind":

"I often wish that you had feathers
I'd keep you in a giant cage
All day long I'd sit and watch you
And sing for you if it would be okay"

or

"I wish you were a little slower
Not just slow but pa-pa-paralyzed
I could put you on a socket
And you could never run away"

Re: Don't call my name, don't call my name Alejandro (or the modern music rant)

Bruno Mars urgently needs a songwriter...

that are my pet peeve-lyrics:

Bruno Mars/ Grenade

I'd catch a grenade for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)

Throw my hand on a blade for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for ya (yeah, yeah , yeah)
You know I'd do anything for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah) Oh, oh
I would go through all this pain, Take a bullet straight through my brain,
Yes, I would die for ya baby ; But you won't do the same

Bruno Mars/ Marry you

Cause it's a beautiful night,
We're looking for something dumb to do.
Hey baby,
I think I wanna marry you.

Is it the look in your eyes,

Or is it this dancing juice?
Who cares baby,
I think I wanna marry you.

"Aehmm... no! But thanks for asking. A bit more effort would be nice though."

Also very important to avoid eye contact in the club when this song is playing...

Jason Derulo/ In My Head

Everybody's looking for love. Oh. Oh.

Ain't that the reason you're at this club. Oh. Oh.
You ain't go fine at dancing with him. No. Oh.
I got a better solution for you girl. Oh. Oh.

Just leave with me now. Say the word and we'll go.

I'll be your teacher. I'll show you the rules.

Re: Don't call my name, don't call my name Alejandro (or the modern music rant)

So I come home to find daughter with a bunch of friends over listening to the Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, etc.

What really freaked me out was when they put on "Going Home" by Ten Years After!

Made me proud (that they like all my OLD stuff).

This is one of the songs that my hubby really really likes - I try not to think about it.

This is the section that really scares me though:

I wish you were a little bigger
Not just big but really fat
Doors you would no longer fit through
In my bed you would have to stay

Ah well, when we first got together and I told him I didn't want to get involved with a feeder, he denied being one so I should be safe, right?

Phew CD... there's nothing like a mix-tape. And you didn't have to buy those. Just the radio station and two fingers on rec+ play.

..or you received them as a gift from someone.

What a pity that there aren't mix-tapes anymore...
