Hahahah. I am used to lead from the stage , the best kind of hedonistic leadership.
Well - I agree with you. There are places that support actual fun. And I also think that people do not dance for the same reason other stuff doesn't get done here, worried about spontaneity/authenticity being perceived as impolite, rude.
I dance when I feel like it. Gigs, classrooms, balet halls, tents. I think the stiffness will change. A buddy of mine went to headphones party (4 diff music channels), she had to look for somebody dancing to the same stuff. Fun. And some rooms had no light. Gasp! Puritanism is on its way out of life.

This thread is shamefully sparse, considering the amount of excellent concerts we have in Zurich Switzerland.
The second Wiediker Jazz Fest takes place this weekend. Not a flashy affair, but a cool event in a friendly location - Enfant Terrible - in the coolest neighbourhood in Zurich Switzerland. |

Extreme are playing X-TRA in Zurich on Saturday 9 December, and tickets went on sale today for a smidge under CHF 60. Not seen them since December '92, but it's Nuno... *swoon*

Where's the best place to go to find out details of forthcoming concerts in specific parts of Switzerland (I live/work in the Zug/Zurich area). This thread seems a little dated. Thanks in advance!

Bands in Town, Songkick, ZüriTipp, Starticket, Ticketcorner et al provide lists and lists and lists and it can be tiresome to trawl through them all; there's always some politics involved as to who promotes what, so you have to scroll and scroll.
Look at the venues homepages too, as they'll often list stuff before it's on the main sites. Once you know the places you enjoy gig-going, you'll get an idea of the booking agents preferences and be in the know.
Facebook is good for some things. RonOrp is ok for last minute info.
The idea of this thread was for people to share the info and perhaps make arrangements to meet up with like minded live music lovers. But then Facebook kinda stamped on the internet and the chance of meeting randoms / lovers / new blood via public arrangements reduced, which is a shame IMO.
Feel free to post. There used to be a requirement you'd be attending the concerts yourself, but that's kinda obsolete. It's only a useful resource if others contribute and it develops momentum.

Not sure about iTunes, but if you follow an artist/band on spotify, you can choose to be notified about their next gigs.
Also, Stars in Town Schaffhausen will have Kaleo and Rag n Bone man. On the same day. Aug 8th | The following 2 users would like to thank TheWolverine for this useful post:

Get to know the venues that host the kind of gigs you'd be into and join their mailing list. Loads of great gigs aren't on Ticketcorner at all. A really sweet venue to keep an eye on is this one near Stadelhofen station ... http://www.mascotte.ch/nu/events/event_list_type/2
It's a really small venue. We saw Mark Lanegan there a few months ago, and the last time I saw him was infront of 3,500.

Kaufleuten, Hafenkniepe, Komplex, Kinski (closed now ), Amboss, EXIL...there are quite a few more within the city and close by. I had some of my best experiences in small venues like that. Big Stadium gigs aren't for me. | This user would like to thank TheWolverine for this useful post:

There is also the App Bandsintown, but tbh if you really want to know, you need to follow the artists and check their tour dates.

Have the app. Its cool and all but sometimes a bit too intrusive (Anyone can add you to events or tag you or such). But its new, so probably needs some getting used to.

You meet loads of intersting people, and the staff are often musicians themselves. I loved the Manchester gig scene 1995-2005...places like Big Hands, Jabez Clegg, The Roadhouse, Night & Day, etc. First met the guys from Elbow when they were working on the bar at The Roadhouse and Jimi Goodwin (Doves) would be in the audience, or Clint Boon would be DJ. Mascotte is a step up from those places, but has a good vibe.
