It's in case a nuclear power station blows us.

The Swiss are thoughtful like that.

Re: Pottasium iodide in Bern?

They are to be kept with you at all times. If you see a big flash and hear a big bang to the west of Bern, you should turn on your radio (Which miraculously has not been destroyed by the electro magnetic pulse) and follow the emergency instructions on DRS-1

If the local atomic power (AKW Atom Kraft Werk ) station blows up, you go down to the shelter with your neighbours and learn the local German dialect. In the meantime you take the tablet each day to keep the radiation away from your thyroid gland. There exists in Switzerland a civil defense corps who will tell you what to do in the event of an accident.

It's OK. Most conceivable nuclear power station accidents won't involve an EMP. So you should still be able to pick up DRS1 quite happily.

Whether you actually want to is quite another question.

Re: Pottasium iodide in Bern?

Very good question. I don't know. May be because it's not a OTC drug.

But would you be able to put the kettle on? A nice cup of tea makes most things better...

Re: Pottasium iodide in Bern?

Since the Swissies are by nature incapable of spontaneity, you can be certain that even a "nucular" meltdown will be properly planned, announced and executed.

You will have plenty of time for tea, pills, and finding the nearest shelter.
