Is there now a worldwide air shipped parcel restriction to the US ?

I read this article from Japan Times:

Why were the restrictions adopted?
To prevent terrorists from blowing up airplanes with explosives hidden in packages.

What are the restrictions?
Japan Post Services Co. stopped accepting U.S.-bound airmail weighing 453 grams (1 pound) or more on Nov. 17. The restriction applies to parcels sent to the U.S. or its territories, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, but will not apply to parcels shipped by sea or by regular customers who use a service that allows them to pay for delivery afterward.

I wonder if Swiss Post is doing likewise for air shipped parcels destined for the States.

I shipped recording gear (a compressor) to the United States just after all the panic started.

I used Swiss Post Urgent - I sent it from Switzerland on a Friday & it got there on Monday (1.5 business days).

There were no "hold ups" in customs on either side.

Re: Is there now a worldwide air shipped parcel restriction to the US ?

I just shipped my nieces birthday and Christmas presents today. Sent it B post and was told 7-14 days for delivery to the US. No problems.

I actually shipped her gift from here because I didn't want to check it in my bag when I go home next week. I bought her a gigantic old fashioned alarm clock (hot pink) for her birthday - and a music box for Christmas. I had a visual of the bag getting x-rayed and security seeing a giant clock next to a small box.

Re: Is there now a worldwide air shipped parcel restriction to the US ?

Today we sent 1kg Swiss Chocolates to US.

B-Post doesn't exist anymore and A-Post was 30 Francs.

Over 1kg it would be even more expensive.

There is one more option , to make smaller parcels with less than 500gr. That is 18 Francs.

I had no idea how to start a new thread, sorry.

I stopped shipping chocolates to N. America after my friends told me they could get it cheaper at Walmart than what I paid in Switzerland.

It’s a sad, sad world.

Surely not Laderach? Or was it Toblerone?

I shipped a 52kg crate containing a cylinder head by TNT/Fedex air to the US at the end of last year. It took ages. My freight agent told me it was hard to get space on freight planes to the US as aircrew were in limited supply and capacity was reserved for critical supplies.

I guess its always unreliable when you're dealing with these 3rd world destinations

I shipped two Ducati heads to Canada 15 years ago for some porting. Let's not discuss the cost (though torque peak went from 6700 to 8200, rev limiter to 9500 on my ST2)

True. No Dunkin Donut bags of coffee, no recent imports. I think it is a critical supply..
