Sure, it's not a long term solution. But sometimes it's nice to give someone a fresh start and a helping hand.
You know what, you are right. OP, we'll meet you at the airport..you can stay at my place until you get your riff-raff sorted out. Gastro will provide the nice food, Big Mac will deliver Big Macs...and we could all collectively take care of him....how does that sounds?

We don't really know if Daboy's situation is true. But it's an interesting topic for shooting the proverbial ****.

I recall reading an article about a Swiss family in Argentina who had fallen on hard times. They had no money, no contacts, and could not speak any of the local Swiss languages, yet Switzerland paid for their repatriation, including travel costs.
You never know though, the Swiss family Robinson never got back.

English slang for 'to pay for something for someone'. It's normally used for things like food and drink . . . i.e. if someone's out of cash in your group and you're in a pub, you might shout them a pint.

Good news Daboy!

Assuming your story is real, you can might even qualify for a loan to come back if you are financially distressed. They may even train you for a job. Look on the Swiss Abroad website for more information on "Kilcher", a relief fund for such occasions:

Auslandschweizer-Organisation

This country may be dull and boring as heck, but it sure has some class.

If illegal immigrants who come here in similar situation can make it, I dont see why a person with a Swiss passport cannot.

To the OP: I'm rooting for you. Do it now while you can. If I were there myself, I'd be one to help out, even if only in some small measure.

I don't know why so many people are up in arms. There is a budget for repatriation so what skin is it off your noses if the guy gets some help. Yes I do pay tax...

Re: Arriving in CH on a one-way ticket with almost no money intending to stay. discus

Here a few links I found. The Swiss Government provides funding for returnees.

Returning to Switzerland

""The information under this heading is intended for Swiss nationals living abroad. Are you a Swiss national but have lived in another country for a long time or perhaps not even been to Switzerland yet? Then this is where you can find the necessary information about entry formalities, registration and jobsearch.

There are many things on offer for young Swiss nationals living abroad, as well as for returnees.

We are supporting Swiss nationals from abroad in their job hunt in Switzerland.""

Some links are in German only. You can contact the ASO office in the US for translation.

I was about to write the same thing..
I do hope he's joking about those 150 chf and that for his own sake he'll be able to save a bit more before arriving here, otherwise I'm perfectly fine with the Swiss state helping financially with the repatriation. There are many things we also benefit from (universities, roads, railways, different institutions etc etc) and everything was done before us paying taxes here..
