Magic The Gathering - Basel

Hi EF,
went today to Fantastic Empire to get a Magic the gathering Deck and asked in the store if people usualy gathers to play it, "no players" it was the answer.

Hopping to find players with same interest, since it will be good for me to practise German and to enjoy the game at same time.

Re: Magic The Gathering - Basel

Do you know what - I didn't understood a single word of that post - or, more accurately, I've understood the words, but not the sense. I had to look it up in Google. It's really odd to read and read and read without comprehension and wonder if one has suddenly gone slightly round the bend. Very comforting to find that it all makes sense; it was just one more thing I'd never heard of.

lol! No players? What stupid shop was that?
Check out the WOG forum:

Most tournaments are in Zurich or Luzern. But there still should be 1-2 leagues in Basel too! (I'm a T1 player by the way!)

Re: Magic The Gathering - Basel

You should try Magic the Gathering Online (if you haven't yet).
Although the software sucks (or at least it used to suck, and I think they haven't improved it much), it provides the same gameplay (well, 99%*) as the so-called "paper" version.
There are significant advantages though: opponents are there 24/7 (barring downtime), you can expect to chat in English (and the cards are all in English), your collection doesn't take up physical space, get lost or stolen, the cards are indestructible (and you don't need to use protectors)... No cheating, it actually implements a fair chess-style clock instead and you actually don't have to shuffle yourself.

*support for arbitrarily large loops was inexistent and I doubt they made something for that meanwhile.

Re: Magic The Gathering - Basel

You could also try the Blizzard game Hearthstone. Its free to play, slightly easier than Magic, but I see lots of similarities. Its a lot of fun! I think they just released an Ipad version as well.

Re: Magic The Gathering - Basel

We'll be moving to Basel in June and I still play MtG, but online occasionally.

I still have my whole set of Unlimited cards along with Antiquities, Legends and so on. I stopped playing the physical cards with the advent of Fallen Empires.

Like Prishe mentions, Heartstone is a great game and also give Might and Magic: Duels of the Champions a bash too.
