And that is part of it as well. I find myself surrounded by people who take things that man and his network and right wing talk radio as the word of god himself. Such a huge percentage of Americans are so brain dead, I simply can not see myself raising children here. The racism and ignorance is out of control. The fear mongering is always taken over sanity. The lies are repeated so often that they are perceived as truth.

Many many many things. The straw that broke the camels back though is the current right wing childish foot stomping they call politics. When people who ran on deficit reduction and patriotism start denying 9/11 first responders the health care they need to combat the injuries they sustained being heroes because their hugely deficit increasing tax cuts have not been extended yet, I find myself needing to step away from the table.

America has lost it's common sense and gained corporate greed in it's place. I am ashamed to be a part of such a country. I look forward to the final raping of my rights which will be to be either photographed essentially naked and exposed to unstudied radiation or groped by a stranger when I leave this place. I could go on and on with my frustration, but I feel it unnecessary to the thread.

I just want to know if I am suffering from "the grass is always greener on the other side" while I entertain the thought of rearranging my life to Switzerland.
Oh the joys of unbridled capitalism........

Thanks M Rader for clarify things a bit - and somehow, and i know I should not presume, but others here from the Us might feel the same, but for VERY different reasons. Like the many Americans I've met over the past few years who'd rather scupper the country than work with Obama.

Corporate capitalism under the guise of good old American values and the greater good of diplomacy.

I'm sorry, are you implying that in order to fly you are not forced to either take a body scan or receive an intrusive pat down where your genitals and other sensitive areas are touched?

You are right...America has lost it's common sense. That is what I meant by "PC" being politically correct is destroying nations that adhere too strictly to it. It's gotten to a point where "you can't believe anything they say." Theres nothing wrong with giving things a try and see where else you can live outside of USA.

Its a pity really...Overall the American people are still friendly but because they feel so powerless they are accepting anything and anyone as their "rescue from inevitable collapse." People and countries go thru transitions, andthis creates difficult circumstances for many. Either the movement is for the better of the country or not. Unfortunently for USA "its not."

It's ironic that with the agreement signed with NAFTA so many manufacturing jobs are leaving USA. Manufacturing is just about nil in America. Along with the middle-class who were the backbone of America. But those who have in the USA don't see this or don't want to see it. America will only be saved when the "American people" stand up and fight for it. The disparity between the rich and poor is becoming more evident and the policies of Congress favors them. Right in the face of the American people. I still like America but it will never be what it used to be. America will exist but as a 2nd world nation, sort of like Brazil. (no offense to Brazil of course)

P.S. No you're not suffering from the "grass is greener" syndrome. Sometimes it is...

Is it as bad as it is the US? That is a concern of mine. I surely do not want to jump from the kettle and land in the fire.

No its not as bad, just different. It would be best to visit wherever you think you will want to live and check it out for yourself. It will help you decide better. Switzerland has passed a few laws that have many foreigners (some on this forum) a bit peeved at the country, but many still stay because it's a lovely place to live.

In which case, great caution is required imho.

Prosperity Joy, I was peeved, big time, not about the basic principles of the proposed Law, but about the out ant out racist campaign (with posters all over the place showing white sheep kicking back sheep out of the Country- italians pictured as mice eating the Swiss cheese, and men from the Balkans being rapists). Yes, I was shocked by the racism of the campaign, and I am Swiss born and bred.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately, the system has been designed to prevent that. The corporations own this country and any illusion of choice the people have is exactly that, an illusion. Individuals will never be able to put anyone in power who the corporations will not be able to immediately buy. The "Citizens United" (unlimited, unregulated, donations to the politician of their choice) ruling made sure of that.

How can you be assured of getting the genital pat down and not the scan thing? Is it either/or?

Yes, I will be planning a trip there before I move. Unfortunately, it will cost me around $2,000 to do that. That is why I am trying to collect as much information as possible before I take that leap.

Are you referring to the law that a deposit is required to enter the country? (Obviously that is a rough description of what I read about.) If so, I can see the logic in the law. See, that is the kind of law that where I may not agree with, I can see the reasoning behind it. I can not find the reasoning in what goes on in the US anymore. I need to go some place where I feel that I am surrounded by adults, not children with power in a perpetual state of fit throwing.

Bingo...when the Supreme Court allowed anonymous donations "that was the topping on the cake". USA is out of the American peoples hands and it is very sad indeed.

Well I have to disagree with you. To me the Swiss aren't racist. They just "tell it like it is". In other words if statistically they see that its Greeks thats doing most of the stealing, (I use Greeks only as an example) well they say it. No PC and its great! Not perfect, but never-the-less effective. (I won't go back and forth about this with you as it is OT)...toodles

Yes, they prefer you take the body scanner but if you refuse the scan, a "enhanced pat-down" is required before you can pass the security checkpoint.

I just found comparing going through a body scanner or being patted down to your rights being raped a bit dramatic. I also found it funny that then you mention fear mongering as one of the reasons you want to leave.

I don't necessarily agree with everything the TSA is doing or how they are handling things, but please get a clue. Find out what's going on in some countries like Congo before you complain about your rights being raped.
