No, we just don't want to earn / own more than our partners. Experience tells us that men always end up resenting this, feeling a bit superfluous.
hey! I resent that comment

But to be honest, there are actually quite a few types of Swiss women and they all go for a very different type of guy. So to say that you have no chance as an expat is wrong, you have to choose where you hang out. Some women think there is nothing more exciting than someone who is "not a boring, spoilt Swiss guy".

ETA: Tall and likes cats, you say? Begga, your loss.
have to agree with kittster. men should be taller and earn more (intelligence is a given ). i think as time goes on, the earn more bit will be harder as women overtake men in the workplace.

for me, woman earning more is a total cultural no-no, but i admit to being very unenlightened/backward in this respect. i do know of a few people where the women work and the men stay at home. but these are all american couples and i believe women have already overtaken men in the workplace there. i guess americans are a bit more forward-thinking in this respect.

i disagree that the money thing is down to male resentment - i think it is more due to how women view and treat men who earn less than them.

How do you feel about women who don't necessarily earn more, but have more coming from a loaded family or the such?

I honestly dont think so, I subscribe to the philosophy that:

"Women cannot go backwards in style,
Men cannot go backwards sexually"

Therefore the resentment of someone making less/more money comes from the women's side.

But hey.. I know we not gonna see eye to eye on this.

Especially since I'm wearing my heels today

Women from rich families are even more selective with their partners, unless they want to annoy their parents. You have to fit in with their social circle, after all. My situation is that I am "poor" now but inherit at some hopefully distant point, so I don't worry about being looked after when I'm old but definitely am interested in someone who doesn't think twice about buying dinner now. I belong in the "doesn't want a relationship" crowd of Zurich and I think it's because a lot of us have had really bad experiences and are simply not prepared to be vulnerable again.

well, simply add the money to their earning power. if the wealth earns them, say, 50k per annum through interest/dividends etc. then just add this to their salary.

Don't date = problem solved. Perhaps . . .

After reading this posts, it would be so easy to make a generalization that all single people are weird and all people in healthy relationships are normal.

Re: Meeting New Friends and Dating

That generalisation would not be completely wrong, married people do rank lower on depression scales and suchlike. I guess some single people are pretty normal - except when it comes to relationships. Now some refuse to see that they have issues or that they are repeating bad patterns and bounce from one disaster to the next, while others recognise they have a problem and completely avoid getting close to someone in the first place. Modern life makes being single quite easy and I guess it just takes a lot for someone who has been burnt or is perfectly happy alone to say "ok, I'm prepared to take this risk and give up my freedom and peace and quiet".
