| | | | | Now, that said... can someone explain how the church wants us to believe that conception happened on the 8th and birth on the 25th? or is it me thinking wrong? |

If you believe the conception story then you will believe anything.
And father's day is a holiday in Ticino??

According to Catholic doctrine, that day of the Immaculate Conception of Mary refers to the conception of Mary (i.e. when her mom, Anna, got "knocked up" -- duh), not Jesus. The conception of Jesus is celebrated on the feast of the Annunciation on March 25, which, biologically, makes sense.

I'm not religious (far from it), but gleam some nuggets of useless information (only required in instances such as these) from watching too many TV quiz/trivia "QI" type programmes. | Quote: | | | | | .... but the women in Neuchâtel are beautiful! | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Why thank you | | | | | Not the furry ones.
Catholic kantons have more "Mary" days than Protestant; but those working in Protestant kantons, get given extra "in-lieu" holiday days to even it out.

There just about everything Mary-related means a day off, even for those who don't believe in it.

Tomorrow is also Christmas for the Eastern Orthodox, including the couple hundred thousand Serbs in CH.

Hats off to the local Trychlerverein who have just been by, bells a-ringing, in the freezing rain. And hat's off to the neighbors who come out to watch, armed with thermoses of something warm to keep up the bell-ringer's - and everybody's - spirits. What a lovely tradition.
You know... just when I'm feeling grumpy about this place, along comes a parade to remind me of all the things that are uniquely, wonderfully Swiss.
Happy Dreikönigstag one and all.

A bit late but I'll have a bash,
The basis of a Three King’s Cake is sweet yeast bread dough, but here is a traditional German recipe to try. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art12820.asp |
