Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

In Mexico, If you get the baby. (It's not a crown), you'd have to make a party on2nd of February.

Nice to see it is not the case here.. dodged that bullet.

Yeah, she gave him written permission to say that. I've seen the note.

Just curious.

If you have now idea what this thread is about then you are probably not working in a Swiss environment.
I think in my office of around 60 people there are 5 Swiss. But each epiphany we get Three Kings cakes. Of course it helps the the boss is Swiss.

Didn't have one today though. I'm still on vacation,.

Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

In the past people didn't give Christmas presents on Christmas day. It was solely a religious holiday. Gifts were only given on the day of the epiphany January 6th, to commemorate the 3 Magi giving gifts to Christ.
King's day and the cake containing a "king" or other object from the Nativity is not a French tradition only. It can be found all over Europe and dates back to the 15th century. The meaning of the gifts, cake, and celebration have been somewhat lost in time or celebrated separately but originally it was all on the same day.

it's called la galette des rois... It is originally a French tradition that found its way into Francophone Switzerland.
Is it originally France or Spain? (Spanish) Wikipedia (the all-knowing, reliable resource that it is) says something like "In France they have the Gâteau des Rois which is identical to ours and the Galette des Rois comes from the north of the country. It's highly likely that the Spanish tradition comes from the "Tortell de Reis" (apparently from Catalunya). In any case, this tradition is relatively recent in Spain, and only started a few years ago in some areas"... So actually avoids the topic of who came up with it first.

It then goes on to say that the Mexicans took a similar tradition from the Spanish in the 16th century... doesn't sound all that "recent" to me! In Spain, the winner of the little figurine inside the roscón has to pay for it... some bloody prize that is!

Anyway, it was nice to see the roscones (for they will always be roscones to me) in Migros. It warmed my heart and reminded me of another happy time in my life where I was having new cultural experiences
