Anyone wearing the crown today?

Just curious.

If you have now idea what this thread is about then you are probably not working in a Swiss environment.

Managed to choke all of the neighbor's kids with the plastic figurines. I'm thinking that it should be a quiet weekend at the Assassin's lair this weekend.

Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

Did ours last night (upsy-downsy kind of day today) Both girls (miraculously) ended up with one - it now seems la mode that many places now put in a king and a queen -- I just thought it was 3 kings.
In Migros, on Monday, they had a display of cakes - all eat-by the 4th.
Where's the logic?

Well the king is a bit of a queen, all dressed in gold; and the queen is a real tart wearing white plastic.

Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

I arrived in Switzerland on Tuesday night, discovered the existence of funny-shaped breads with little plastic choking hazards inside yesterday, and today I'm wearing a crown. I knew moving to a new country would be life-changing, but this is beyond my wildest dreams!

Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

We had ours a few days early, while the in-laws were still about ... after explaining it all to them, and letting the kids pick their bits first, my father-in-law came out with the king.

If you feel a severe cramp in about 4 to 6 hours, that'll initially be your stomach and then your intestines playing "pass the foreign object" that can't be dissolved.

The best cure is to eat the crown

I might as well start a thread about it.

Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

it's called la galette des rois... It is originally a French tradition that found its way into Francophone Switzerland.

Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

I'm a bit disappointed. Last year, they passed out bread at work when I was in Schlieren. This year I'm in Opfikon, but... nothing.

Not complaining too much though. I did get a cute loaf from HR in the shape of a man with a pipe and some twigs sticking out of him on Dec 6.

Last year, I actually bought myself a loaf to eat, because I wanted to find the plastic figurine inside and wear the crown. But it's kind of lame to get a whole loaf for myself, and I think tomorrow will be too late to bring one in for work...

Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

This is our first experience of Dreikonigtag and I bought the bread because it looked nice. I was shocked when my son produced a little king out of the bread. Thank goodness he wasn't a little younger otherwise he could of swallowed it. As for the bread add a little more mixed peel and a pinch of cinnamon and put a cross on the top and I will have the perfect hot cross buns for easter! Any one got a recipe?

Yes we make it at home...It tastes a million times more delicious than the one bought at the store. I'll ask my wife for the recipe; it is lots of work nonetheless

Re: Anyone wearing the crown today?

Third year in a row I found the king.

I had a special breakfast planned though, with an American sausage recipe so I had to cook anyhow. King or not, my day was just another day. (Breakfast was tasty though and so was the cake / bread so it's all good.)
