Well you get warm weather for 4 months id assume. Do you hate that too?
You'll think so, but sadly no, it does't work like this.

You have 4 seasons and they work like this:

Winter with snow: November to March (even April sometimes)

Sping: April to July (my birthday is in June and it is never ever warm and sunny at that time)

Summer: July-August (if the weather is nice during that time)

Fall: September-November

I like when it is sunny AND warm, this is why I am not living there anymore!

All fair points. But if I wanted to get away from the snow, I wouldn't think that Switzerland would be top of my list. Hell, im from NW Western Australia and I'm not too fond of 45+ for months. So I crossed off the sun straight away when I listed possible places to live

You are right! In the old time, when I was a single young pretty woman, I moved to Istanbul where I found the prefect place for me.

And came a man....

We are now living a nomad life of expats where the places we go are not in all points fitting with my ideal of weather...

I regard
March until start of May as SPRING
mid-May until early Sep as SUMMER
mid-Sep until late Nov as AUTUMN
end-Nov until end of Feb as WINTER

LOL - up here in the Jura we'd have to tweak those figures a bit! ... Spring is a bit shorter!

I just love having 'proper' and definite seasons though.

Oh, we had a lot snow already. That's unusual. Well, I guess it'll snow by end of February or in March as every year.

Re: When is the snow coming back?

I think I'm bad luck. My hometown in the U.S. had the 3rd snowiest December on record...until I showed up for the holidays. Then the temps were above freezing every day but one. Now I show up back in Switzerland and I can't buy a cm of snow.

I doubt my snowboarding lesson at Flums is going to happen this Sunday. Come on snow gods!

Snow is forecast to return on Monday evening. So, spend the start of your holidays with buying postcards and souvenir, doing the writing on the postcards, sleep well and long in the mornings of Sunday and Monday, find a nice restaurant on Sunday and Monday, study the local and regional geography ..........................

Re: When is the snow coming back?

This weather sucks. There was loads of snow this time last year, both in the mountains & in Zürich. I buy myself a general abonnement and a season ski pass, and then the snow disappears. I'm leaving Switzerland at the end of February and so I'm anxious to get in as much skiing as possible before I go - all I'm doing at present is sit at home watching TV and checking the snow reports.

Fingers crossed that it snows next week!!!!

Two different weather websites predict snow fall by the end of the week. Perfect for my birthday!

I hope that we get loads of snow in February, perfect for my mother-in-law who arrives for some respite from her flood-ravaged property in Queensland.

Re: When is the snow coming back?

It was officially snowing in Bulach about half an hour ago, but is now turning into slushy sleety stuff. Doesn't look like it's going to settle though.

Anyone esle got any snow?

Re: When is the snow coming back?

No snow yet, only drizzle - but the white stuff is guaranteed to make a return appearance soon.

Why?

Because yesterday I stopped in the Coop, where the displays of cheerful springy primula caught my eye. I couldn't resist - and bought not one, but four, flats. And then spent the afternoon happily a-planting.

Flowers in February? What was I thinking?

Every gardener knows that the mid-winter thaw is just a teaser; the Eisheiligen are a long, long ways away. But in a moment of weakness...

So yes, you can all blame me when winter returns with a vengeance.

We have 10 seasons here in my little corner of Switzerland, not the usual four. We have:

Spring.
Mud Season.
Summer.
Mud Season.
Autumn.
Mud Season.
Winter.
Mud Season.
2nd Winter.
Mud Season.

We are now in the January mud season.

Snow will return February-ish, or on the next day you have to drive on a narrow winding road at the edge of a steep ravine. Or the day after the cantonal salt reserves run out.
Excellent. Please also note that it always snows within 5-7 days after you have removed your snow tires.

It's started to settle at 900m on Flumserberg and looks lie it's set to carry on all night.
