Just *How Many* Ef-fers in Ticino...???

So last nite I went to have a couple of beers with Tom (st2lemans) and talk about music related stuff.
In Tesserete, at the Pub Alpino, we casually get to know another guy (Jason, right?), also an EF member, and his buddy Matt (I think). I don't remember if he is also an EF member.
I mean -these people just pop out of the floorboards and out of the closets in the most unusual places, you know what I mean?

So how many of you are lurking here in the Deep (sunny) South?
Shine forth and be seen... !!

Ciao

Paul

There's a couple of nice grotti in Gentilino / Collina d'Oro

true, i like the one at Posmonte in Agra, friendly, good beer, good food, good prices. Requires transport though, how about bar/pub to get the ball rolling?

My friend who owns the Irish Pub in Sorengo (he's not even Irish, but an Italian who grew up in LA), also just took over Bora da Besa in Gentillino (which was a kindergarten when my girlfriend was a kid there).

(I often stop by the pub on Thursdays, after I pick my daughter up from work at 8PM)

Well - transport will be needed in any case.
I can volunteer to pick up stranded EFfers (up to 4) around Lugano, tho'...

Re: Just *How Many* Ef-fers in Ticino...???

I've just been in the pub once, I think i met the owner, wasn't he a student at Franklin or TASIS, i can't remember, anyway nice guy, good to see he's finding new challenges. I'd meet there, only i'm using the bus at moment, so it would have to be aperitivo timing.

No, he was never a student there (he's about 45 now, I've known him 20 years almost)

Re: Just *How Many* Ef-fers in Ticino...???

The info about the Gentilino bar is nice....albeit after I moved outta there.

The Grottos in Collina d'Oro are good. Beware the Michelin-starred one which is *pricey* but go past that and there are two more on that road which are normally priced. Figino is, I think, one of them.

There's also another couple hiding behind the cemetery. The one closer to the Collina d'Oro outdoor centre (ex. UBS freetime place) is better.

Lugano, I look down upon you

Pricey, but very good, though I prefer the one in Taverne (Motto del Gallo).

It's Grotto Figini that you are thinking of (Figino is a town on the lake near Grancia).

Re: Just *How Many* Ef-fers in Ticino...???

By experience...
*avoid* both in terms of price/quality (trust me on this, please).
The former in Gentilino once served *frozen* bread to my wife (it was warm outside but still ice on the inside).
The latter was a meaningful disappointment the last time we were there.
Scr3wed once, I have the tendency not to waste the painful fruits of my labor on the same resto (maybe I'm wrong but....).

Maybe I'll open another thread on TI restos before this thread gets totally OT'd

Mad! Next time you are in Tessserete let me know, its a great spot, and I live within earshot and viewing distance of the Irish pub alpino. Unfortunately they dont give me a discount for the passport though!
