Re: Moving into Basel--is it worth it?

Hi,

to be honest when comes to how lively a town is depends to a large extent of what you want to do in the evening and what your interests are. If you want nightclubs where you are dancing the night away, then you will have more choice in Zurich. However, if you want to go out for a meal or go to a bar there is very large choice of places to go. Also as people have noted on this thread there are loads of different activities going on through out the year.

If you compared a town/city in the UK of a similar size to Basel I think you would find there is a lot more going on in Basel than the town in the uk.

I am curious LeJoker about Lörrach, is there more going on there in the evening than in Basel ? I am bit suprised as it is much smaller than Basel in terms of population.

Have fun
Martin

I am very scared I may have made the wrong decision...thinking that my quality of life would improve by moving there vs. keeping my old job in London... totally scared and not sure I can back up now!
Hi, not sure if you still have access to your English forum account but if you do.....wanted to know how things went for you.

I am in exactly the same boat!

Thank you.

Re: Moving into Basel--is it worth it?

Lörrach and St.Louis and typical Sleeping Citys for commuter to Basel.
They both got very good connections by public tranport to basel, very good shopping places (for the size of the city), but they don't have much nightlife to offer.Basel got 3 major Trainstations (SNCF, SBB and Basel Bad bf), an airport with fights to all over europe) so it will be easy to get away.
Lörrach got a few festivals , but nothing big (max is around 10000 people on the market place), the city is around 50000 people,St.Louis is much smaller(around 20000).
Thats nothing compared to london, the taxes are pretty high in basel as well the premiums for the health insurance. Basel is small (takes 40 min to walk from the city center to the french border). The advantage of basel is shopping over the border and cheap tickets for trains/flights, the possibilities in basel itself are pretty limited, because of the decline of the inner city (shopping, street closures to cars, restaurants are closing as well).
