I'm absolutely skint!

How did that happen?

Waiting for 2 big invoices to be paid, bills were huge for December, spent too much on Xmas presents, laid out for some necessaries to run my business etc aaaargh!

Not used to this, counting the parking change in the car...

Not even enough to buy a bunch of flowers for the OH

Don't worry, I'm not a borrower (so I wont ask to lend some) but how will I get to the end of the month? Bloody nightmare here without any, everything costs so much (normally I don't notice)...

Time to get a 'normal' Job as I'm sure most of you salaried lightweights never have the same problem

Boohoo, for once I need some sympathy

Re: I'm absolutely skint!

You got my sympathies Transition. I'm waiting for a couple of big invoices to be paid in as well... hitting 60 days at the moment, no joy in sight. Stack of my own to pay on the table, nothing terribly overdue yet, but if I pay I'm skint, so there they sit... trickle down effect! Luckily I have a whammy invoice to make end of month and that dude pays instantly. Just have to finish the work before the end of the month!!! (and it's a lot to do)

Also have my own business and have totally been there. I happen to know that a kingsize twix costs 2 chf in a kiosk, because once I was down to my last 2chf and that's what I bought. Good luck and take...shallow....breaths.....

Could you not ask your bank manager for an overdraft... or does that not exist in CH?

Re: I'm absolutely skint!

I hear the Russians are lending. Simply deposit your internal organs and watch out for your kneecaps in case you can't make the first installment.

Seriously though, a bunch of folks close out their December sales ledger early to avoid making too much money in the old year and put their recent sales into the new year thus creating a financial vacuum for a few weeks. I don't know anyone who doesn't play that game and every year it all resolves itself by late February.

Re: I'm absolutely skint!

Now is a good time to do a spring cleaning and sell some things you don't need any more. I'm sure you can find a few things and you'll be happy to get rid of them. The other person will be happy to have what they need at a good price.

I can lend you a fiver. That's about it.

That happened to me once - I withdrew more money from an ATM than was in the account. The card let me do it, and the sum showed up as an overdraft in the account statement. Apparently there is an in-built overdraft facility, I didnt know of it. Its a Kantonalbank salary account, btw.

There is no automatic overdraft facility with PostFinance or MigrosBank

Re: I'm absolutely skint!

As I recall, a salary account can be overdrawn up to one month's salary.

At least, it used to be that way, don't know if that's still the case.

Look at the money which people have raised by selling off old used junk. You know, things like the tennis racket Roger Federer used to win a major tournament. Haven't you got anything similar you could sell on here?

Totaly untrue, an overdraft needs to be pre-arranged with your bank.

Sorry to correct you, but one can overdraft any EC/Maestro card (not sure if you have to prove regular income though) - has been that way for ages...

Tend to agree . I went from contractor to employee.

Advantages - no need to chase invoices - worst I had was 90 days (shame on you Oracle) and vacation with no impact on income.

In times of dire need I raided the company AHV, MwsT, and tax accounts .
