Re: Bring back the colour !!

Browsing through one of my favorite stores while back home, I couldn't find anything that struck my fancy.

When the friendly helpful sales clerk asked if she could be of assistance, I held up a little number that was almost right - and asked her if it came in black.

You know you've been living in Switzerland too long when...

Re: Bring back the colour !!

Thinking that I'd be doing some job interviews at some point and otherwise spending a lot of time at home, I brought with me A LOT of "Florida wear" and a few items of "career wear."

This isn't a major catastrophe as I've not had occasion for job interviews (yet) and I do mostly stay home...

Alas, hubby and I are to attend the wedding of one of his coworkers this weekend, poor Mrs.CMirsky traipsed around Basel with me checking out every store we could think of which may carry clothing in "grosse grossen" sizes. Of course we found some, the trouble was that I HAVE plenty of black, which was what was on offer, as that was a main staple "career wear" color for me so I wasn't keen to buy more - and I think that all black is really not so fantastic for a wedding.

The other issue was that the items which were colorful were a bit overly colorful (hot pink zebra? no, thanks!) but in materials and cuts with someone's maiden aunt in mind. Well, either that or else something which was only casual at best.

So, the good news I can impart is that the colors ARE out there, unfortunately you have to spend 5+hrs walking around Basel to find any variety, and you still may not find something (in color) you actually like.

You must be particularly gorgeous or you pay more attention to others as both DH & I wear red coats (not at the same time mind) in CH in the winter. Mine is wool 3/4 length "dressy" type & his is a sporty ski type jacket & I never noticed anyone stare. I do usually wear black clothes exclusively except for coats, jackets, shoes. I've been wearing black for so long I feel weird wearing other colors.
although I'd like to think 'gorgeous' was the reason sadly I think it may be the coats doing or a vivid imagination..
I haven't noticed it in Zurich but the first spring in Luzern I'd see someone glance over, smiled at them in return and they either looked down or gave me a confused/scared look..

on second thoughts it may have been the smile...

on the plus side lovely to know there are more colourful coats out there.. i'll have to keep an eye out

People keep saying the Swiss like to stare. So I'm sure any reason is a good one. But then they get all shy when they are "caught", ie, you smile at them.

Wear your colorful coat with pride!

Re: Bring back the colour !!

My life without colour would be very dull indeed. I do often find it quite difficult to find nice coloured garms in CH so generally shop back in the UK.

Today's them is purple and red:
Purple top and glasses
Red coat and boots

Re: Bring back the colour !!

I think we go along unconsciously with the seasons.
Now is the season of white snow, early dark evenings ... grey(yuk) moods in the mornings ...

comes spring around, we will go for green, perhaps a bit of pale blue, fade green ...
comes summer, comes flashy...
comes automne, comes whatever your mood is in ...

You can still wear colorful underwear or freaky coloured pijamas can't you.

Ah, how daring...you Swiss you. It's cute. People don't like to stick out of the crowd here, hence the neutrality in colors. Although we do have a few ocassional old hippies who wear these rainbow colored dungerees or dresses and sweaters, true.

I like to spice it up with colors, especially in winter. Skirts, ties, sweaters, socks, scarves.

Re: Bring back the colour !!

I own this hoody, and a number of pairs of, perish the thought, coloured tights! Oh and a purple woolly Black Yak hat. And then you wonder why I shop in England (other than the price ) and get lots of stares...

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...DL._AA300_.jpg

Oh and I had to restrain myself from buying the hoody in all its other colours when they went on sale at 10 each...

These are some of my creations. I wear them during yoga classes, and yes, I sometimes stand out like a sore thumb here.

Can't imagine why...

Ja, but those are light skinny tops ...... in winter the body is clothed in warm garments ...... and most are black ... why? Other than luminous type ski-jackets ....... most everything is in dark maroon/burgundy/brown shades......

Thank you, I have many, but they're mostly serving as decoration in my Yoga studio. I did well selling them back in the States. Have to see how they fare here. Otherwise I may be stuck increasing my hues to stormy tones...

"Jump for joy" sounds excellent.

Ah, memories. "Run for joy" is one of tracks I did with Anita Fix a few years back, sounds a lot better with a thumping bass, we had a lot of fun playin'.

the vid should probably be in the "Killer tits" thread, shouldn't it...

Ok, back to colors

Re: Bring back the colour !!

I think I was influenced by this thread - bought a smart red coat today and left the black and the dark grey ones on the rack!

Incidentally I have a raincoat/jacket that has a pattern of large pale pink roses on a white background and when I wear it at any time other than summer, I do get looks from the locals - makes me smile!

I've done the last few days with bright turquoise shoes. Was going to wait for the summer, but as long as they stay clean, I'm pleased.

Many compliments, (also a few guys trying to pick me up. Akward)
