Not a particularly topical thread, but..I have a fireplace in my gaff and was wondering where I go to get logs and kindling.
In the Uk they tended to supply logs by the articulated lorry load, which is not much use for a domestic fireplace, how does it work in Switzerland?

In the autumn and winter, you can find fire wood at many petrol stations and some larger grocery stores (though not in the center of town). I've never noticed it around in summertime. I'm sure this is down to low demand.

I'm sure some of the EFers who live in the boondocks will chime in telling you to ask the farmer next door...

Its the load delivered thing I am getting at.
Wood from petrol stations is usually rubbish and wet if it rains.

Also whats the law on me wandering out into the forest and taking wood...in the UK it was theft, is it the same here?

In the city of Zürich, you can get it from the city itself. They deliver, too, but only over short distances. Also, Migros shops with a "Do it & Garden" section (like Brunaupark) sell boxes of logs that are about 80cm x 50cm x 30cm at 14 Fr.
