| | Raw sewage
..seems to litter the side of railway tracks as they pass through railway stations. Seen this at Hardbrucke and Altstetten station seems particularly bad. Piles of cr@p and soiled tissues all along the side of platform 4. some of it looks fossilised. maybe i shouldn't be looking but there's f all else to do as one waits for a train. all seems very out of keeping with the clean and tidy nature of the place in general. what gives? you're banned from flushing the john as you pass through stations in the UK. someting for SBB to consider?

when you flush and it's blue, it's not going to offend someone on the platform. If you see sleepers where you hoped the blue would be........
Who takes a dump on the train anyway? Just thinking about it makes my eyes water!!

It was the subject of Kassensturz the DRS TV consumer show some 5 years ago. Older trains just have a hole direct to the track. Some guy got his coat dirtied by a flying one while standing at a station.
Swiss rail SBB spokesman said "it was crap"...

In Ireland all boats on the canal had to be fitted with a holding tank of such kind as a " sea toilet ", (flushing with water from below the boat, and dumping your dump into the water) was no longer excepted.
Why in Switzerland they still allow dumping your business on the tracks is a mystery.. and i am not the one to find out why |

There are only 2 stations in all of Switzerland, where trains can empty out their doo-doo tank. This one incident, a lady got fined for peeing inside a train (close to an exit, because all the toilets tanks were topped off and thus were out of order.

The newer trains cook the waste to remove the water content.... on TV they (SBB) reported they only needed to empty the tanks every 6 months! Maybe they should reconsider and make it once per month?
Back to the OP. It is probably a result of people living rough, they take a dump in the night. We had a similar problem near Payerne with travellers crapping in an underpass.
