" Cold "calls from Germany

Have you ever got uninvited " Cold " calls from German numbers purporting to be lottery or similar companies. I got a call the other day from a German lottery-they said I had registered for a competition in which I can win either an Audi or 32000 Franks. Well I did not remember ever registering for this competion. Then they said that if I win then they need my Credit Card number to transfer the money and asked me to give it. Naturally NOT! Such " cold " calls are prohibited in Germany to numbers inside Germany but not to numbers outside!
Be careful and don't let these people take control in the conversation. Show who is the boss.!

Re: " Cold "calls from Germany

This is a fast becoming common scam. The callers work on the principle that there are so many different product competitions that many people forget or don't even know that they've entered one or another, and they pray on the vulnerable, by working the numbers game. By calling many numbers, they will eventually and unfortunately find someone who believes them and gives them the required details -- at their cost.

Just remember, anybody who has ever genuinely won anything, normally doesn't have to give private personal financial information.

If it sounds too good to be true - then it probably is.

Re: " Cold "calls from Germany

For those not understanding German, the advice given by this website (do we know that the site is trustworthy?), they'll only call you back later. Not advice I've seen elsewhere.

I screen numbers. If I don't recognise the number, then I let it fall to the answering machine.

Re: " Cold "calls from Germany

I have an easy way to deal with them:

- if you have a telephone with a seperate speaker, turn it on and move the phone over it

Re: " Cold "calls from Germany

I couldn't be bothered. Most unfortunately, telemarketing and cold calls (whether they are genuine or not) tend to be common.
I politely answer: I'm not interested,
and then I hang up without waiting for an answer. punkt schluss.
