Short term car insurance for expats in UK?

Hi, I need to insure myself to drive my fathers car for a period of 2 weeks when we go back to the UK. All the major car insurance companies are refusing to insure me as I have not been a UK resident for the past 6 months. One company who has agreed to insure is quoting me £200 for 2 weeks.

I have a clean UK licence, no claims for the last 5 yrs. Surely someone on here has found a better deal?

TIA

You mean that they want to charge you £200 to add you as a named driver to your father's insurance?

The loops they make you jump through just to be a second driver in the UK are ridiculous. Ask your Swiss household insurance whether they already cover you for driving a car here and if so if they cover you while hiring cars abroad or in your case driving a relatives car. My insurance here covers me for driving anyone's car, but only third party. I'm sure one could top up to cover fully comprehensive.

Hi

I had to insure a friends car in the UK for me to drive there last year for a week or so.

I used www.tempcover.com and I think it cost me about 5 or 6 pounds per day.

I have to agree tempcover.com was really good- the provide a search then you can choose from a couple of providers, according to your age and other details.
If not, have you tried ensleigh?

Darnations. When I drove my dad's van over from the UK, i paid £85 for two days cover! I think that was with Aviva Insurance - or Norwich Insurance. Can't remember now.

Re: Short term car insurance for expats in UK?

My father uses the civil service London insurance broker, who couldn't see a possibility of adding me to the policy nor to insure it separately. It is ridiculous, as I always have to hire a car because I don't live there. But then the same situation is here, difficult for Swiss residents to drive foreign cars.
