Help! - I think I have been ripped off by an online shop nova24.ch in Zug

I bought a laptop online on the 31.01.11 at nova24.ch listed on gunstiger.ch. I received confirmation of my order the next day to say delivery would be in 48 hours. On the 9.02.11 I received an email to say that the delivery would be delayed by another 5 days and that delivery would be yesterday or today.
In this email they asked if I would like to cancel the order because of the delay and even included a voucher of 100 CHF for the next purchase! I wrote back to ask them to confirm the new delivery date. I still haven't received any answer to this email. I also tried to ring the company but the phones are not working. At this stage I am starting to get a bit worried that the company has ripped me off.

Has anyone had a similar experience with this company and if so, is there anything I can do to get my money back?

Thanks.

It's a common practice nowadays, that shop list items as available "on stock" but in fact only get it from distributors when you place an order. It's clear that most shops simply cannot afford to maintain huge stocks, unless it's a high demand item that will sell fast.

Sometimes they will use drop-shipping, meaning that the item will be sent out by a third party (distributor) directly to you.

When they are unable to get an item, you get excuses and postponed delivery dates.

If you can't wait for your item, cancel the order, but be prepared that other shops may run into exactly the same availability issues. After all, this is Switzerland (one brand=one distributor) ;-).

... but seeing what Glendyn posted, it appears you are dealing with crooks. If you paid with a credit card, call the credit card company ASAP and request a charge-back for this purchase.

There does seem to be a bit of noise about this company on the web. In addition to what Glendyn has posted I came across this (Google translation here) where the CEO appeared to take a direct interest in the complaint. However, instead of trying to resolve the issue he publicly threatened the OP with legal action, although it appears that nothing came of this threat.

A bit more digging shows this (Sorry German) about the CEO. It appears that he has been involved with 3 other firms 1 of which went bankrupt and 2 others that went into liquidation. Nova24 (or Nova IT AG as it's listed) appears as still active and running. However from the complaints I've read all the warning signs are there, and seem to have been since the middle of last year.

As other people have said - get in touch with your credit card company.

Nova IT AG.

Seems they had some new owners/management take over as of mid-December.

Thanks for all the suggestions and information.
I tried ringing but it is constantly engaged.
I wanted to pay by credit card but they didn't accept it as it was my first time to purchase anything with them.
I did, however, ring my bank to ask if it is possible to cancel the money transfer and it was! They can, however, only get my money back if there is money in the company's account. I will only know in about 10 days whether or not the cancellation has been successful. Will keep you all posted.

Re: Help! - I think I have been ripped off by an online shop nova24.ch in Zug

I have said this before, if a company wont or can't accept a credit card payment then walk away, there is a reason why they can't, nothing to do with first time customer etc etc it means either the bank has cut them off or didn't trust them enough in the first place to give them a card machine.

there is no valid reason why any company cannot accept card payments, they could even use paypal to accept them! but then of course it would be a lot harder for them to rip people off.

good luck op!!

Re: Help! - I think I have been ripped off by an online shop nova24.ch in Zug

I got through to a lady from the company last Tuesday and she told me that my laptop would be delivered on Thursday or Friday. When there was no sign of it on Friday and the company phones were down again, I decided to go out and buy another laptop. I was convinced that the whole thing was a scam.

However, much to my surprise, my laptop actually arrived today!

I am going to send it back as I am very annoyed at how the company has dealt with the matter. The delay in delivery of the product was bad enough but the total lack of communication was unacceptable!! I don't think this company will be around for much longer if they don't start communicating with their customers.

Thank you all once again for your useful information and suggestions.

I suggest you try Digitec-they have excellent service ( with exception of Telephone support) and the best prices in Switzerland. Free delivery too.
