At first I thought there must be some radiation there to kill the smell, and I wasn't too happy putting Percy in a neutron beam. So I was very relieved to find that the urine is heated to kill the smell, and pleased to see it is only 24 volts (Hopefully no misprint there!)
However if we all save water here, the Dutch will have nothing to drink! | | | | | On the other hand, using Heineken to flush the toilet would be a good idea, no waste what so ever..
It ends up there one way or the other..

I guess the yellow coloring... never mind. | | | | | Actually, that yellow is raw sewage, and if the valve doesn't fully close for whatever reason (some garbage or whatever falls in the Urimat) then it's really going to smell. This could be why some Urimat rest-rooms smell fine, and others smell to high-hell. | Quote: | | | | | So I was very relieved to find that the urine is heated to kill the smell | | | | | Heat urine to kill it's smell? |

If anything, heat makes it smell more then less ( spend enough time on campings to know )

Heat urine to kill it's smell? | | | | | I once had the "pleasure" of sitting in a Sauna, when somebody thought it was a splendid Idea to pee on the oven. I have never seen a Sauna get cleared so fast, and never seen so many people get dressed so fast.
Re. the water saving, it may be great for the restaurant owners wallet, but the saving for the environment is so small, its ridicoulos. When I visited McDonalds a few days ago, They wrote they helped save 22M liter of water per year. Switzerland has 7.5M Citizens, so it is a saving of just 3 liters of water per person per year. Not much, when citizens in Switzerland on average consume 160 liters per day.
Doc.

Heat urine to kill it's smell? | | | | | a) am I the only one who doesn't see a heater on the picture? The electricity is used to magnetically open and close the valve.
b) I do not think that broken Urimats can be blamed for the smell in some restrooms. You know, not all pee actually goes in there and if the one that didn't isn't cleaned often enough - it smells. I'd bet that the restrooms that today smell with the Urimats did in fact smell with the regular pissoirs before as well.

well it's a toilet after all. and i don't go there to savour the air!
We are getting more like the japanese where they have a prerecorded " flushing " sound to cover the sound of the farts etc!
