| | Zürich ladies - your assistance please (clothes shops)
Hello Ladies,
I have to attend a wedding in the Uk in May (registry office and gastro pub) and need to purchase a frock. I own nothing of the sort..! I live out in the sticks and don't go to the big city very often so could you point me in the right direction of some shops.
I don't want to order on internet because the fit is as important as the stlye or colour.
I don't want to stand out, just look reasonably smart and maybe a little bit different (even vintage or slightly ethnic / hippy etc)
I don't want to pay too much (max CHF300) but don't want H&M either.
Am late 30's and not anywhere near skinny.
I will not have time to shop in the Uk so it has to be in CH and Zurich is probably the easiest (or maybe Luzern or Bern).
Any ideas where to start would be most appreciated.
Thank you
Hetfield

If you go to Zurich Karen Millen has really brilliant clothes that are perfect for weddings.

Hi - sorry to jump on your query but I have a similar query. I know this might sound a bit odd but I live outside city too and am just wondering where normal people for normal clothes - day to day. I am not really an H&M girl (getting on to 40 but still trendy )and find Mango & Zara on the small side for me - a healthy UK size 14/16 but still all Mango and Zara on the too small/too short side. Everywhere I go I find designer brands. Without wanting to sound too sad I am missing my M&S/John Lewis, Debenhams, High Street cothing brands and am desperately searching the swiss equivalent. Or do swiss ladies just spend more on their clothes. Many thanks yours, Cat xx

Try Manor, they tend to have a fairly decent range of normal sized clothing. There is also a C&A in Zurich. | Quote: | | | | | Hi - sorry to jump on your query but I have a similar query. C&A for basic everyday stuff and 'cheap' underwear...
Also, Charles Vogele...we were stunned by the 50 or more varieties of very ordinary men's trousers... |

This is great news--thank you! Promod has been a big favorite since my Brussels days, but there are only a few shops in Switzerland and none near me. | Quote: | | | | | ...and a Promod just opened in Basel | | | | | |

I love S. Oliver (great for "normal sized" people). Look for their "S. Oliver Collection" if there is one in Zurich. They have all sorts of things from suits/dresses to more fancy stuff for weddings. In the standard S. Oliver store (not collection) their everyday wear is also great.
Alternatively the Esprit stuff is quite snazzy too.
Either way, get their frequent shopper cards too. You get some nice vouchers occasionally through the post (never know when they are handy.

There is an Espirit Outlet in Dietikon, they tend to have larger sizes as well, and the Men's wear has a great selection too. Esprit Outlet Store Riedstrasse 3

Without a "continental frame" and dead skinny to boot, you need to forget Zara and Promod. You can get lucky with C&A sometimes as they do a range of sizes, though a tad boring, but Vogele is definitely very conservative but worth a look if desperate.
Never quite found a definate place where I could always find generous sized but up to date clothes like at home.
So I just force myself to go home on little shopping trips!!

An essex girl walks up to a farmer and notices his boots...
'aaaah come you ave an L and an R on your boots love'?
'well it's simple', says the farmer 'I have L for my left boot and R for my right so I don't get confused'
'aaaah i gettit' says the essex girl
'That explains why my knickers have C&A written in them'
