| | Public holidays falling on a weekend for 2011
Specifically, 1st May ( Labour Day ) which falls on a Sunday.
Taken from this URL, it is termed as a Special Sunday.
Then there is this PDF in DE, that says under Tag der Arbeit for Canton Zurich: Gesetzlich anerkannter, den Sonntagen gleichgestellter Feiertag im gesamten Kanton gemäss Art. 20a Abs. 1 ArG.
Does this mean Monday 2nd May is a working day ?

Yes, as far as i know (as told by swiss boss, and not just because he wants us all to work longer...) you don't get days in lieu if the public holidays fall on the weekend.
But apparently some years, if we get lucky with the timing, there's a lot of weekdays off, so i guess it balances out |

It's quite rare for public holidays to be carried over to the next working day. Usually they're just lost (while waiting for next year)

I don't mind holidays falling on the weekend, but I really wish all the holidays were unified across Switzerland.
It's really quite depressing going to work knowing that everybody else I know has the day off. Equally I find it irritating when I have a day off, but there's nobody else around to enjoy it with because they're at work. And all because I happen to work just outside of kanton Zürich.

Well its more expensive to live in Zurich, maybe the holiday is more of a reward to the cityslickers that are struggle with higher prices |

Sorry to bump it but my question is strongly in topic
Ok, i see from your posts that in Switzerland in a lot of cases, a public holiday falling on Sunday is losted. Is it really totally lost ? Neither a kind of money compensation? :P
Just to compare in the place where i live at the momento, if this happens in Italy then in your month salary you are payed a "virtual" day more, for that "non enjoed public holiday".
