Need inspiration to create a community - Fitness people

Hi guys, I need some help/inspiration from some business savvy/community building savvy people

Ok so I'll try to keep it short - I'm from London, UK currently living in a small town in Switzerland. I work here, my position being Interactive Art Director for a firm. Meaning I do everything Marketing related, websites/photoshoots/video promotions/graphics/posters ... etc etc ... I also do it freelance

I speak only english - where I am nearly everyone is either french/german speaking. I've been here for a year and a half now. I had a g/f here who I lived with, we broke up around Xmas and since then I've been sulking you could say and found everything really quiet. I don't have many friends here as I spent every day with her and we did everything together, so recently it's been real hard here. However I love my job.

When it comes to Hobbies - I'm a gym maniac. I'm in the gym 5-7 days a week. Since I broke up with my ex, it's gone to 7 days. I have an interest in everything fitness related and have taught it myself from nutrition to workouts via online forums and videos from celebrity trainers etc.

I'm in good shape - can always be better but I love the gym and it's the place where I just feel 100% relaxed and in the zone so to say - every workout I sweat it out properly and go full on. Rather than crazy big, I'm more the lean/athletic shape/look and you can see my definition like crazy in the gym.

The point here is that over here someone like me is really rare - I get a lot of people coming upto me when I just go out and meet people from work and they ask me where I'm from and they are fascinated by an english speaker ;p

Recently in the gym, I'm being a bit more social by "smiling" at randoms and taking my headphones off when I need a breather. Before I would really be in my zone where maybe it was intimidating to people but I always get stared at. However when they talk to me they realize I'm a normal, down to earth type of guy!

So recently, I have a lot of people in the gym just coming upto me and asking where I'm from/what I do/If I'm a professional athlete/If I'm a trainer and made a few friends in the gym from all sorts of people just in the last 2 weeks. Also when I go out to grocery shopping, I usually bounce around in a tshirt and I've had few randoms just come upto me and compliment me for my figure/body and again ask me if I'm a trainer, when I say I'm from London it just gets them hooked even more.

I'm really into this motivating type of lifestyle, love Anthony Robbins and I like the idea of helping/teaching, I have a FA Coaching Qualification Badge for example that allows me to coach officially football to kids aged upto 18 - (I'm 27)

So finally - my question and help I need from you guys is - I want to almost create a community or create a group. Maybe run this little town ;p ... Ok that's far ahead but for now I want to create something. I have all these people often coming to me for advice and asking what I do, and with the english and being from London I know I have something here which is unique and need to take advantage of it or bring some people together.

How can I do this?

I don't want to make money - so I don't want to "personally train" people, anyways I couldn't do that coz I don't own a gym and if I started doing that in the gym I go to, I guess they'd kick me out for using their premises. So I don't want to make it like that. I was thinking possibly, people with similar interests who go to the gym - and then making a group or some sort. Maybe if I give out flyers or notes to people I think would be game in the gym and just say if they want to join a group where we all come to the gym at the same time and help out - then who knows we can do activities after together like going for drinks or whatever

Any thoughts on this? How can I go ahead doing this? Or how can I use these things/talents I have here and use it to "make a change" so to say in my life and other people's

Ask the gym if you could put up a notice with just that? Say you're interested in creating a community to help with motivation, be socially active - going for runs, trips etc. - and base it around the gym itself? A good place would welcome such fresh air. You sound like a great employee for the gym.

Re: Need inspiration to create a community - Fitness people

I'm in there 7 days ;p

I have a job, I can't work there but would love to do something - on a daily basis have random guys coming to me for advice etc

Also I'm pretty lonely here sometimes so it's a perfect way but what can I do - I thought just to say something like say to people if they want, they can meet me at XX TIME at XX LOCATION in the gym and we can train all together or something but I don't know if that works coz generally in a gym, you then go and do your own thing - you can't really bounce around in groups of 7 or something....2 max

My friend at worked said I should email/contact the gym and propose something to them but I don't know what to say

Re: Need inspiration to create a community - Fitness people

First of all you are training 7 days each week. Isn't that about 50% too much? Shouldn't you be looking for another activity, rather than just pounding away at making your body more beautiful? I understand the body needs rest periods to develop!

I really think your best bet is to work with the Gym. Train yourself only 3 times a week, and tell the Gym you are available to motivate people if they can get in touch with you.

Take some German / French evening classes, you will meet lots of young ladies there, and you will work toward integrating here.

Respond and go to the EF special meetings in Bern and Neuchâtel.
