Great - now I have to get a new ski helmet. (Concussion recovery tips)

Daughter (age 15), took a tumble this afternoon at Klewenalp, and had to be taken off the mountain on a stretcher, as she'd banged her head. She was diagnosed with concussion and is currently in intensive care for 24 hours, for observation. She seems ok - has what she calls a mild headache.

Hopefully, we'll take her home tomorrow evening. Already the doctor has told her - not much reading, not much tv, not much anything. Any tips how to keep her entertained - especially as next week we go on our ski holiday!

So glad to hear she is OK - hope she will enjoy the family ski holiday WITH a helmet.

Ouch! Been there, done that!

She is fine now? No vomitting?

It is not much she can do beside resting. Since they told her to not do much with her eyes...

She'll have a funny story to tell to her friends! (Thank God it is a funny story of a happy ending!)

Wishes,

Nil

No vomiting. Feels dizzy. But when I last spoke to her, they'd just stopped checking her pupils every 15 minutes.

90 minutes drive to the hospital. I guess if the stay is extended, they'll transfer her to one near home.

Poor girl! Hope she fully recovers soon.
Maybe some board games or talking books to keep her entertained?

She should be ok. I got the same accident when I was her age. They kept me in the hospital for the night under observation and I came out quite ok (some won't agree ). It sad that she is that far though, it is always more reassuring to know they are closer.

Try to rest too, I am sure you had your load of stress after her fall.

Re: Great - now I have to get a new ski helmet. (Concussion recovery tips)

Been skiing for about 58 years and finally agreed to get my first helmet due to OH and daughters' nagging. I very rarely fall - but I did catch some ice the week before and fell very hard backwards, head on ice - new helmet cracked at the rear - could have been my head.

We're going to Leysin. Chances are she won't be skiing. But we'll ensure that she's not left all by herself, and the money we save in ski passes will go for a treat for her.

She was more concerned about our stress than her own problems. She's such a sweet girl. Must get it from her mother...

Of course it happened on our last run before going home. She's cracked her goggles - so new goggles, new helmet.

Bonne chance - and enjoy Leysin - a nice resort. I love the Tour d'Ai. Hope she can ski, but better safe.. as usual.
