Something to keep in mind and is a bit old school- the Swiss phone book is online and your name is everywhere on your cards, store cards are the least of your worries. By just entering my first name into their search engine my address pops up. Clever eh?

Unless you have chosen to be unlisted... .
Didn't work for me. I put in J. and it spat out 856'412 potential names. Please re-check your sources before you post irrelevant, poorly referenced guides onto this forum.

Just did it and found myself again... add some letters big boy and gosh, any of my last names that are on all my cards in my wallet. The op found herself, I can find myself- don't know why you can't. Oh wait, you know where I live.

Re: handbag stolen in Lausanne

Let me get in with my bit of "free advice".

I am constantly amused (or I should say shocked) with the size of purses (bags) that ladies carry around with them in Lausanne. They basically have their whole life in them. Then they leave them all over the place (behind them, on the floor, hanging off the chair etc.) when they are in a coffee shop, restaurant etc. They completely forget about them as they chat away to their friends. It is only when they leave that they realize that the bag is no longer there.

And to make matters worse, the bags are wide open with the wallet, iPhone, laptop etc. in plain view. Please. Let's use a bit of common sense. If you temp thieves, you will get what you deserve.

And leave the cards and other papers you don't need at home. Your bag is not your filing system. Do that at home. You don't need your permit with you (legally yes but practically no). Take a photo copy and carry it. Same thing for the passport.

If you don't have a bag you can close, then keep it in front of you.

also found out that insurance won't cover it. unfortunately in the early days of not understanding a word of french i must've made a mistake somewhere on the forms
Check your insurance contract again. If you have household insurance, most will cover between CHF 2000.- and CHF 5000.- "outside" your house - this would fall into that category...

and really no copy done in any way anywhere ?

A Mobile-Phone can technically collapse. Whatever you have on a mobile-phone or a computer of memory value should be stored on a second device always !

Re: handbag stolen in Lausanne

i usually plug in my phone at work and offload the memory such as pics and videos but as sods law goes, i hadn't done it this one time and so it wasn't updated. i do carry the bare essentials, a phone, wallet and keys. I didn't have my passport or permit with me or bank cards and i dunno how i cld reduce it anymore?! just bring in notes i guess, but my bag was a small-ish and fully zippable so there are no external pockets and hard to put your hand in. so they just stole the whole thing instead. only thing that rubs more salt to the wound is the cost of replacing the phone, also as i am only two months into the orange contract and will be for the next two years. then also got to work, told them i was mugged and my I.D was in there as it was afterwork drink on the friday, otherwise it wld've been at home. was then told, "yes you can get your new badage and pay 20chf." this is a big multinational rich company i work for....lets just say i was bouche bée. FLABBERGHASTED.
